STADA is the first generics company to add new dosage forms
and new active strengths to its Omeprazol product range
Bad Vilbel, 03 July 2000 - On 01 July 2000 the Bad Vilbel-based
company STADA Arzneimittel AG significantly expanded the product
range for one of its most important core products, Omeprazol STADA,
bringing so far unique dosage forms to the German generics market of
Omeprazol.
Omeprazol STADA is a generic drug marketed by the Group subsidiary
STADApharm based on the world’s top-selling drug, the stomach
treatment Antra (known internationally as Losec). Following the patent
expiry in April 1999, STADApharm began marketing this product in the
form of a capsule containing 20 mg of active substances. By the end of
the year the company had recorded sales of almost DM 15 million.
On 01 July 2000 STADApharm became the first and to date only
supplier of generic drugs on the German market to offer 2 further
dosage forms for Omeprazol, specifically a 20mg tablet and a 40mg
capsule. This means STADA’s Omeprazol product range is the only one
which offers the same active strengths as the most common forms of
the original product, Antra (i.e. tablets with 20 mg and 40 mg active

substances). Consequently, it is now extremely easy for the prescribing
physician to switch to Omeprazol STADA. In order to make the most of
this potential, the marketing subsidiary STADApharm will be expanding
the number of its field staff massively this year.
STADA expects these new Omeprazol STADA dosage forms to generate
sales in the millions. This provides further backing for the Group’s sales
forecasts for the year 2000, which were only recently increased to
approx. DM 870 million (> +25% relative to the previous year).
