Custodial History (Provenance): File folder containing this correspondence has<br />

been housed with the <strong>Eagle</strong> County Historical Society and the <strong>Eagle</strong> Public <strong>Library</strong>.<br />

Rehousing and processing occurred in June 2010.<br />

Note (Abstract): The collection contains personal correspondence saved by<br />

<strong>William</strong> H. <strong>Luby</strong>. The earliest date is 1888; the latest date is 1921. Business<br />

correspondence saved dates from 1890 to 1919. Colorado State tax forms saved for 1945<br />

and for 1947. Newspaper clippings saved have been photocopied and date from 1917 to<br />

1920, with one clipping from 1993. There are 9 pieces of memorabilia.<br />

Historical Note: <strong>William</strong> Harold <strong>Luby</strong> graduated from University of Colorado Law,<br />

was admitted to the bar, and practiced law in <strong>Eagle</strong>, Colorado. After service in the Army<br />

during World War I, he returned to <strong>Eagle</strong> and was district attorney for the 5 th Judicial<br />

<strong>District</strong> before serving as <strong>District</strong> Judge, 5 th Judicial <strong>District</strong>, from 1934 to 1969. He was<br />

a member of the Masons, American Legion of Red Cliff, Lions, and BPOE.<br />

The papers in this collection were passed down from <strong>William</strong> H. <strong>Luby</strong> to his son,<br />

John H. <strong>Luby</strong>. John H. <strong>Luby</strong> added the most recent clipping (1993) and donated them to<br />

the <strong>Eagle</strong> County Historical Society.<br />
