People Working Together to Make A Difference - During <strong>FY</strong> 2009, Human Resources unveiled a new slogan to define <strong>DC</strong><br />

WASA's culture <strong>and</strong> deliver our message to prospective employees. The new slogan "People Working Together to Make a<br />

Difference", defines how <strong>DC</strong> WASA employees currently function <strong>and</strong> the goal is to ensure that new employees underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>DC</strong><br />

WASA's values, embrace its culture <strong>and</strong> share a commitment to courteous customer service.<br />

eRecruiter, Ceridian Recruiting Solutions Applicant Tracking System - This Applicant Tracking System was implemented to<br />

streamline, expedite <strong>and</strong> enhance the recruitment process at <strong>DC</strong> WASA. eRecruiter automates the entire recruitment process <strong>and</strong><br />

streamlines a recruiter's interaction with departments <strong>and</strong> mangers throughout the recruitment process. eRecruiter is linked to the<br />

<strong>DC</strong> WASA web site allowing for better management of jobs <strong>and</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idates directly from the system.<br />

During <strong>FY</strong> 2009, Directors, Managers, Supervisors <strong>and</strong> Executive Assistants received training in the use of eRecruiter <strong>and</strong> ongoing<br />

assistance is available through one-on-one training sessions on an as needed basis.<br />

Spot Awards - In <strong>FY</strong> 2009, the Human Resources Department established criteria <strong>and</strong> implemented the <strong>DC</strong> WASA Spot Award to<br />

show immediate <strong>and</strong> spontaneous appreciation <strong>and</strong> recognition for exceptional contribution of individuals or teams. Managers,<br />

supervisors <strong>and</strong> co-workers typically recommend Spot Awards based on direct observation <strong>and</strong> feedback for exceptional efforts or<br />

exceptional results. All full-time employees below the department head level are eligible for this award.<br />

We remain committed to providing our employees, contractors, visitors <strong>and</strong> the public a safe <strong>and</strong> healthy work environment. To<br />

ensure greater coordination <strong>and</strong> integration of our safety <strong>and</strong> security efforts, during <strong>FY</strong> 2008, we transferred our security functions to<br />

the Department of Occupational Safety <strong>and</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> created a Department of Safety <strong>and</strong> Security. During <strong>FY</strong> 2009, we focused<br />

on ways to better measure our performance, <strong>and</strong> implemented training to enhance our security program. We will continue this work<br />

into <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2010</strong>, with the development of a Comprehensive Security Plan <strong>and</strong> Strategy. Additionally, the <strong>DC</strong> WASA staff will actively<br />

work with the District of Columbia, Homel<strong>and</strong> Security Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homel<strong>and</strong> Security <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Metropolitan Police to comply with the nationally developed Infrastructure Protection Guidelines.<br />

Comprehensive Safety Plan - Since the development of our first Comprehensive Safety Plan in July 2001, the Board <strong>and</strong><br />

management have closely monitored <strong>DC</strong> WASA's progress. The plan includes a substantial agenda that includes training,<br />

inspections, investigations, <strong>and</strong> other related proactive safety strategies. This budget provides approximately $5.7 million to support<br />

this commitment during <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2010</strong>, with dedicated resources throughout <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2011</strong>. The result of consistent implementation of this plan<br />

throughout the organization has resulted in many positive benefits, including:<br />

• Employees are embracing our safety culture<br />

• Workers compensation costs continue to decline<br />
