Rod and Reel Loaner 

The Burr Ridge Park District in cooperation with the Illinois 

Urban Fishing Program, is offering loaner rods and 

reels to help promote fishing. All you need to do to take 

advantage of this program is to bring a copy of a valid Illinois 

Driver's License to the Burr Ridge Community Center 

during our regular operating hours. You'll receive a rod 

and reel for one day (bait not provided). 

Trail Kits 

Bird Trail Kit (All Ages – 30-60 min) In addition to utilizing 

the contents of this kit, be sure to stop at the trailhead 

and fishing dock to view permanent displays about birds. 

This Wetland Is Polluted Trail Kit (3rd Grade and up – 

45-75 min) In this trail kit, you will learn about the value 

and purpose of this wetland, which neighboring properties 

contribute what types of pollutants and the amazing pollution 

benefits of wetland plants.

dinosaur fossils, research, discovery, humor,

replica dinosaur bones, and then field casting the

take home. Campers should bring a snack and water bottle

skills and provide additional guided practice. Skills Taught: Jump into deep water, 

perform rotary breathing, perform butterfly kick and body motion, change from vertical 

to horizontal position on front and back, dive from sitting and kneeling position, 

survival float, HELP and huddle position, submerge fully and retrieve objects, swim 

front crawl, swim back crawl, bob with head fully submerged. 

Purpose: To improve form and back crawl and learn elementary backstroke, breast 

stroke and sidestroke. Skills Taught: Dive from compact or stride position, swim 

breaststroke, tread water, swim underwater, elementary backstroke, throwing assist 

feet-first surface dive, sidestroke, coordinate butterfly, open turns on front and back. 

Purpose: Provides further coordination and refinement of the strokes. Skills Taught: 

Front crawl, elementary backstroke, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly, front 

flip turn, and shallow dive, tread water with two different kicks, backstroke flip turn, 

survival swimming, rescue breathing, tuck and pike dives. 

Purpose: Refines all six strokes so students swim with ease, efficiency, power and 

smoothness. Skills Taught: Swim 500 yard continuously using the following strokes: 

100 yards front crawl, 100 yards back crawl, 50 yards breaststroke, 50 yards elementary 

backstroke, 50 yards sidestroke, 50 yards butterfly, and 100 yards your choice of stroke 

Perform the Cooper 12-minute swim test and compare with pre-assessment results. 

Purpose: Introduces and practice fundamental springboard diving. Skills Taught: front 

jump from the edge of diving board, pike, back dive, front approach with hurdle.

Fallball Level I and Level II are instructional programs that teach the skills and fundamentals necessary to play at the next 

level. Level I emphasis: throwing, catching, hitting off of a tee, running the bases, and defensive positions. Level II emphasis: 

hitting (live pitching), proper throwing grip and form, improve arm strength, defensive strategy, and advanced base running. 

Each class uses proven teaching techniques that help participants increase their knowledge and ability.

Fall Baseball Leagues at Harvester Park 

League play (8 games plus playoffs) conducted in a fun, educational atmosphere, while maintaining competitive participation 

in baseball. The program includes hats and shirts for 3A, 3B, 4A, and 5A players, helmets, catcher’s gear, baseball, umpires, 

website access, a hot dog BBQ day and weekly league updates (unless otherwise noted below). Games begin the week of 

August 19. No games will be played August 31 through September 2.

Player’s ages are determined on May 1, 2013 

Download a roster from www.brfallball.com and submit to Mark Pasqualini at BRPD by July 19, 2013. Each team must 

have minimum of 10 eligible players on their roster. Division determination is approved by the league coordinator once a 

complete roster is submitted with a $100 non-refundable deposit. Volunteer coaches for all leagues are needed. BR, WB 

7-8 year olds - Level 3A: Rookie League 

Players playing “kid-pitch” for the first time or with minimal experience.

Tae Kwon Do, one of the newest Olympic sports, is a 2000-year-old martial art, offering a variety of benefits for people of all 

ages and physical abilities. Students have the opportunity to improve concentration and self esteem, achieve lifelong physical 

fitness, and learn self-defense skills. Classes are under the direction of Grand Master Ki Hong Kim* (8th Dan World Tae

Little Dragons I: Skills are developed through gentle instruction and appropriate games for their ability. Focus is on developing balance,

Early Taekwondo: This program helps kids develop conditioning, coordination, listening skill, and self-confidence through creative activities.

FLAG FOOTBALL 

LEAGUES Ages 7-14 

Burr Ridge Park District announces the opening of 2013 BRFL registration. All divisions offer all participants the chance to 

play football in a safe and fun atmosphere. All players will receive a team jersey, a flag belt, mid-season giveaway raffles, 

and the awards show at the end of the season. Instruction will be provided for skills, rules, and good sportsmanship. Games 

and practices will be held at Harvester Park. Palisades Park serves as the back-up location for make-up dates. 

GENERAL INFORMATION 

All players will practice together for the first three days and then be split into 

teams for scrimmage sessions on the fourth and fifth days of practice. Once 

teams are finalized, an 8-10 game regular season schedule for each division 

will be played. The season will complete with a single elimination tournament 

culminating in the annual Bowl-Cup Championship Series (the BCCS). The 

10th Annual All-Star Game, and Skills Competition will be held midway 

through the season. Park Staff will coach and officiate games. Game times 

will vary according to day. All teams will have one practice during the week.

There will be a limit of 4-6 teams in this division. The goal of the Eagle Division 

is to challenge the ability of all players in a more competitive environment while

Children and adults universally enjoy learning the art of karate. Classes are taught by Illinois Shotokan 

Karate Club’s expert instructors under the direction of John DiPasquale, four-time National Champion, 

U.S. Karate National Coach and President of the National Karate Federation of the U.S. Beginner students 

will not be permitted to register into the current session after the second class has met. Registration for 

continuers through advanced students will be accepted after the start date, but full class fee is required. BR 

PRE-KARATE (4-7 Years) Young children will develop agility, strength and coordination skills through fun and creative activities. This program, 

specifically designed to work with growing minds and bodies, enhances memory and agility skills, too. Watch your child blossom

Park Development News 

Harvester Park Playground Renovations 

As of this writing, just a couple of final improvements which are weather dependent 

remain to be completed. We are anticipating that construction fences will be removed 

and the playground re-opened by May 1. The wait will be worth it as the new 

custom play elements are “begging” to be played on. The splash pad elements of the 

renovation will open at the special event scheduled for May 30th (see page 2). After 

the opening, the splash pad will be available for public usage during regular park hours 

until September 2, 2013. 

Construction was completed and occupancy obtained in February, 2013. Two new programming rooms, a new storage 

area, and renovated small program room have been fully operational since that time. All residents are invited to stop by 

and tour this beautiful addition to our community center.

out the registration form completely, making sure you indicate 

the proper code numbers. 

2. Adults must sign the "Release/Hold Harmless and 

Emergency Treatment Form" for their own programs as 

well as for their children under 18 years of age. Registration 

forms without proper signatures cannot be 

processed. 

3. Payment with cash, credit card or check (a $35 fee will 

be charged for any returned checks) is acceptable. Make 

your check payable to Burr Ridge Park District

from you if your programming experience does not meet 

your expectations. In the event that your expectations are 

not met and we are not able to resolve the issues to your 

satisfaction, the following steps will be implemented to 

issue a refund to you.

will receive a prorated refund for the number of days not 

attended after contact. 

A $3.00 service charge will be instituted for all refunds. 

Refunds will not be granted after the mid-way point of the

Medical situations may be granted as an exception to this 

policy. If at any point in time you are unable to continue 

in a program due to a medical situation, you will receive 

a prorated refund if you follow the above steps and include 

a doctor's note identifying the medical condition and 

the date the condition occurred. 

Due to the nature of the program, certain activities may be 

exempt from this refund policy. Such exemptions are noted 

in that particular program's description by the symbol. 

Participants who withdraw from a trip may receive a refund 

or a partial refund. This determination will be made 

based upon the unique arrangements for that particular 

trip. Also, our ability to supply a replacement may have 

an impact on the final refund decision. Make contact with

Outdoor Shelter Rentals 

The Park District has three picnic shelters available for 

community rental – Harvester Park Main Shelter, Harvester 

Park Wetland Shelter and Oak Grove Park. Group 

capacity for Harvester Main is 100, capacity for Harvester 

Wetland and Oak Grove Park is 50. Harvester Main is 

available beginning August 1, Harvester Wetlands and 

Oak Grove Park are available beginning May 15. Contact 

the Park District for complete rules, regulations, and 

usage applications. All group gatherings of greater than 

25 people require a permit. 

Park and Athletic Field Usage 

Burr Ridge Park District athletic fields and parks are 

available 365 days per year for general public usage. At 

various times throughout the year, District and affiliate 

activities are scheduled and receive priority. Any individual 

or group desiring exclusive usage of a park site must 

make an application in accordance with our usage policy, 

which is available at the Burr Ridge Community Center. 

Rental information pamphlets are available at the BRCC or 

can be faxed or mail to you. The pamphlet contains fee 

structures, amenity listings, and rental options. It is the 

intent of Burr Ridge Park District to make specified equipment 

and facilities available for use by the community on 

a fair and equitable basis. Availability will be determined

Burr Ridge Community Center Rental Information 

With capacity for groups up to 150 people, 

the Burr Ridge Community Center is an ideal 

location for your next event. Our program 

space is perfect for holiday gatherings, baby 

showers, birthday parties, family reunions, 

community group meetings, non-profit 

groups, and more.

Two year advance reservations are allowed for

2. Building supervisor rate of $15 per hour will be charged for Group 1 use which 

occurs at times when the building is not open to the general public.
