Welcome to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, nestled in the scenic
Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania – where we’ve taken
the luxury vacation experience to unparalleled levels.
The Hardy family’s journey began in 1987 with the purchase of
the Nemacolin Resort property. It began with a vision: to create
a world-class resort unlike any other, to create a getaway designed
for couples, family and corporate gatherings – a “something for
everyone” destination.
Many years later, we’re proud to offer several lodging options ranging
from the luxurious Forbes Five-Star / AAA Five-Diamond Falling
Rock to the comfort of the Maggie Valley RV Park. We’re equally
proud of the activities that abound.
Our vision, our dream, has been realized. And, we strive each day
to bring something new – something fresh – to the experience.

History
In 1740, a trail was carved
through the rugged Laurel
Highlands between what is
now Cumberland, Maryland
and Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
The trailblazer was a native
Lenae Lenape Indian Chief
named Nemacolin. Assisted by
frontiersman, Thomas Cresap,
Chief Nemacolin plotted what is
still considered to be the most
direct route from East to West.
Nemacolin’s trail was later
widened and used by Colonel
George Washington and General
Edward Braddock during the
French & Indian War. Fort
Necessity was constructed near
the trail and remains a nationally
renowned point of interest today.
In the mid 1800s, Congress
established the first National
“Highway” utilizing Nemacolin’s
trail and extended it westward.
Until the railroads became
prevalent some fifty years
later, this highway was the
major means of East to West
transportation. Today, this
highway is known as U.S. Route
40.
During the 19th century, the
Laurel Highlands became
a popular and fashionable
retreat for wealthy Pittsburgh
industrialists and merchants.
Attracted to the natural beauty
of the mountains, they built
vacation homes throughout the
area. The Kaufmann family, of
Pittsburgh department store,
built the area’s most popular
home, Fallingwater, in the
1930s. Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd
Wright’s masterpiece, remains an
outstanding example of Wright’s
genius and talent.
In 1968, Rockwell International
decided to construct a
Tudor-style lodge along Route
40 to accommodate their
vacationing business associates
and friends. Architect C. W.
Balling of nearby Fairchance,
Pennsylvania, designed the
building for Willard Rockwell,
his former college roommate.
The original structure, with ten
guest rooms, quickly proved to
be insufficient. Twenty-three
additional rooms were added
and decorated by Mrs. Rockwell.
The property was stocked with
a variety of game birds and
various breeds of imported and
native deer. Weekend hunting
retreats were arranged for Mr.
Rockwell’s business colleagues. A
trap shooting area and quail walk
completed the hunting reserve.
Since guests came to hunt primarily in the spring and fall, a golf
course and tennis courts were added for summer recreation.
Lake Louise and Lake Carol were built at the same time in honor
of Mr. Rockwell’s daughter and daughter-in-law. For convenience,
an airstrip was added. Off-property, Beaver Creek was being
developed into the excellent trout stream it remains today.
Mr. Rockwell sold the property
in 1979 to Cordelia Mellon
Scaife. Ms. Scaife operated the
Inn as a private conference
center for two years, then closed
it in 1981. In 1982, Ms. Scaife
sold the Inn to Kent Rockwell,
Willard Rockwell’s son.
Kent opened the Inn to the
public as a conference center.
He added an outdoor swimming
pool, the first restaurant,
called Golden Trout, and the
Maples condominiums. After a
financial reversal, the bank took
possession of the property in
1986. The Inn remained closed
until 1987, when it was placed
on the auction block. Nemacolin
was sold at auction to Joseph
A. Hardy III, the founder of
84 Lumber. From the date of
purchase to present day, Mr.
Hardy and his daughter Maggie
have been, and continue to
be, committed to evolving the
property into a world-class
destination.

THE LODGE
Purchased from the Rockwell family in 1987 by Joseph A. Hardy
III, founder of 84 Lumber, the Lodge has evolved from a 33-room
vacation home to an elegant 98-room lodging and conference
center. The Tudor-style Lodge offers the warmth of an English
Country Inn, while providing tastefully appointed, oversized room
accommodations. Guests can relax in one of the many lobby
areas, admire the Hardy Family Art Collection or dine in the
outstanding Autumn restaurant.
Each room features one king or two double bed accommodations,
as well as a mini-bar for your use. Think relaxed, cozy, casual.
TOWNHOUSES
Located within the grounds of the resort, Nemacolin Woodlands
Townhouses are ideal for families or groups of friends who choose
to make themselves at home in a more secluded setting. Each
Townhouse offers two-bedrooms, complete with fully functional
kitchen, dining area, living room, full-size patio or balcony, plus
standard guest room features and amenities.

The Nemacolin Woodlands Luxury Home Collection provides

Join us as we kick off the spring/summer holiday season with a visit
from the Easter Bunny…and our annual Easter Sunday Brunch.
Adults are invited to relax and savor the extensive buffet menu.

As the calendar moves into May, we invite you to return to
Nemacolin for a buffet redux in honor of Mothers everywhere. In

The golf experience at
Nemacolin is as thrilling as it is

Mystic Rock and The Links. Both

MYSTIC ROCK
Golf lover A round on the

a must. Having challenged some
of the best players in the world
– John Daly, Vijay Singh, Tiger
Woods, Phil Mickelson – “The
Rock” stands ready to do battle.
Designed by the legendary Pete
Dye, Mystic Rock plays 7,526
yards from the tips. On any
given hole, players will likely
encounter Dye’s strategically
placed bunkers, boulders and
water hazards. A par-72 course
layout – with a 78.3 rating and
a 152 slope – “The Rock” has
garnered top honors from Golf
Magazine and Golf Digest.
Even better, golfers can play from
one of several tees on each hole.

THE LINKS
The Links is Nemacolin
Woodlands’ original golf course
and provides a stark contrast to
Mystic Rock. A tricky par-70, The
Links’ small, undulating greens
are set against the picturesque

At 6,658 yards from the tips,
reaching most of the holes is not
a problem…but that’s where
the fun begins. Putting these

The Links provides a firstrate
golfing experience that is
sculpted through the Laurel

water naturally come into play
on several holes. Deep woods,

THE NEMACOLIN GOLF ACADEMY
The Nemacolin Woodlands Golf Academy offers a unique blend
of golf instruction, club fitting and technology, designed exclusively
to help your game. Our PGA Instructors, led by PGA Master
Professional and two-time PGA Teacher of the Year, Dennis Clark,
have over 50 years of teaching and club-fitting experience, and are
sure to find a cure for your golfing woes.
This year we are pleased to announce the addition of TrackMan
Golf Radar Solution technology, the industry leader in ball flight
and club delivery systems. This state-of-the-art diagnostic tool will
measure everything in your swing as well as everything about the
flight of your golf ball. From club and ball speed, distance, launch
angles and spin rate to swing plane, angle of attack, swing path and
club face delivery, there is no aspect of your game or equipment
we will not address. All you have to do is hit balls and leave the
rest to us! Did you know that you can actually gain 20 to 25 yards

Wildlife Academy
Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Our Wildlife Academy is all animals,
all the time. Guests can share some Nemacolin space with tigers,
leopards, wolves and hyenas – a hair-raising experience. A hair-raising

BACKWOODS TRAIL RIDES
Experience the resort’s 2,000 acres the way the original inhabitants
and settlers of the area did, on horseback. Rides are by appointment
only.
PONY RIDES
Each 10-minute ride is by appointment only.
SAFARI TOURS
Your Safari Tour will begin at the Wildlife Academy and take you to
our wildlife habitats where you can get up close and personal with
our animal family. Included in the tour is a quick stop by Billy Goat
Mountain to feed the sheep and goats. Our educational tour is a half
hour in length and is fun for all ages.
JAMAICAN DOG SLEDDING
Dog sledding at Nemacolin is

number of Pennsylvania trout streams including the Youghiogheny River, a
waterway that flows north from Maryland and into the Monongahela just
before it joins with the Allegheny to form the Ohio River. There is also
Meadow Run, Dunbar Creek and Beaver Creak, where browns, brookies
and rainbow trout swim in numbers. From beginners to experienced

The Nemacolin Field Club has 275 acres of hunting land available with a

OFF-ROAD DRIVING ACADEMY
What could be more electrifying than taking the wheel of a Jeep ®
Rubicon Perhaps it might be plowing that Jeep ® Rubicon through
a series of muddy ponds, rocky crossings, ruts, logs, steep climbs
and tricky vertical ledges. We’re here to give you that chance. With
instruction on our challenging courses, drivers will navigate terrain
designed to test any skill level.
OFF-ROAD DRIVING INSTRUCTIONAL TRIPS
Take the wheel and get ready for a pure adrenaline rush! The trip
starts with “The Crater” – a seven-acre mile-long course with
challenges from start to finish. Be ready to navigate ponds, climbs,
awkward descents and testy moguls. After that, head out onto the
Off-Road Trails with 20 miles of terrain loaded with every obstacle
imaginable. We’re talking muddy ponds, logs, precarious side slopes,
rock crossings, step inclines and vertical ledges. Think you can handle
it We’re betting you can.
OFF-ROAD RIDE ALONGS
Don’t want to take the wheel Don’t worry. With our Off-Road
Ride Alongs, guests can ride the vehicle around the Off-Road Trails
with one of our instructors.
ADVENTURE CENTER
Energy to burn A trip to our Adventure Center is a must. Here,
we go to great lengths to challenge – from weekend warrior to the
accomplished athlete. So get outside. Get a workout. And enjoy
the magnificent scenery at the same time. The Adventure Center
is located at the Sundial Lodge – one of the resort’s popular family
destinations. All activities are suited for individuals, couples, families
and kids. Safe, supervised fun!
Climbing Wall
We challenge daredevils to conquer
our 50-foot free-standing climbing
wall. Don’t worry if you’re a
first-timer. The three-sided wall
tests beginners as well as advanced
climbers. Great for all fitness
levels.
Fat Bird Canopy Tour
Our new Fat Bird Canopy Tour
offers some exciting elements – a
Burma Bridge, a stationary log, a
swinging log and two new zip lines.
Plus, a zip down The Fat Bird Flyer
is included!
Ropes Course
(Depending on the course, guests
must either be 5’2” or be able
to reach 60”). The ultimate
in suspended adventure, our
elevated ropes course will drive
you crazy with two levels (20-feet
and 40-feet) and 21 obstacles.
Once you’ve got it mastered, an
exhilarating 250-foot zip line will
send you flying through space…and
off the course. Nothing like it!
Little Tykes Ropes Course
(For ages 4 through 8 years old.
Children must be 48” or taller).
This is a great way for the little
ones to be just like Mom and Dad.
Our miniature course consists or
two elements and a 120-foot zip
line.
OHIOPYLE STATE PARK
Nemacolin is your gateway to some of the best river rafting,
kayaking, hiking and biking in the Eastern United States. Situated just
a scenic 10-minute ride from the gates of Nemacolin is Ohiopyle
State Park (www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/Parks/ohiopyle.aspx). The
Park encompasses 19,052 acres of rugged, natural beauty. The focal
point of the park is 14 miles of the Youghiogheny River that pass
through the heart of the park. For rafting, hiking and biking tours at

information on our Ohiopyle Adventure Packages.

We have a variety of mountain
bikes and children’s bikes – each
one fit to the size/age/gender of
the rider. Younger riders – under
age 18 – MUST wear a helmet
and are required to show a
signature of permission from a
parent or guardian. Rentals also
include Kid Trailer, Comfort Bike,
and Jogging Stroller.
ART TOURS
Enjoy a tour of the extensive
and eclectic Hardy Family Art
Collection. Available daily at
3 p.m., based on occupancy.
WINE TASTINGS
Travel through the vines and the
wines of the finest vineyards in
the world. No passport needed.
This interactive class features
two wine pairings with a small
“tasting” prepared by Forbes
Five-Star/AAA Five-Diamond
Chef Kristin Butterworth. Our
Resort Sommelier includes the
student oenophiles in open
discussions, pairing comparisons
and other wine related topics.

Kidz Klub goes out on the town.
Children ages 4 through 15 will
enjoy an evening filled with crafts,
swimming, games, mini-golf and
movies. They’ll get a kid-friendly
dinner, too. Offered nightly from
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
LITTLE TYKES KLUB
Kidz Klub for little guys. Our
fully-qualified staff will provide
children ages 6 weeks through
4 years with top-rate care and
education. As with Kidz Klub,
Little Tykes can remain with
us for either half or a full day.
Those staying a full day will
receive lunch.

We’ve got it if you need it.

THE WILDSIDE
The WildSide features an eight
lane bowling alley, more than
65 arcade games, a sports bar
and pool tables, indoor climbing
wall, exotic bird habitat and a
miniature train display.
Private areas are also available
for children’s birthday parties
and other social events. The
WildSide restaurant offers family
food favorites such as pizza,
burgers, 20 different wings and
custom blended ice cream.

SNOW TUBING
Close your eyes. Breathe deeply.
You’re about to experience
800-feet of pure snow-packed
exhilaration. On a rubber
tube, no less. Sound like a wild
ride We think so. Riders must
be at least 42” tall for safety
reasons. A great way to spend a
snowy afternoon. Reservations
required.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING/
SNOWSHOEING
Those who prefer low-key
adventure should consider giving
snowshoeing and/or crosscountry
skiing a go. Our trails
offer a hushed, breathtaking
view of the snow-covered Laurel
Highlands.
DOG SLEDDING
For the ultimate in unique, we invite you to climb aboard one
of our dogsleds. Yes, dog sledding at Nemacolin. Our team of
dogs is raring to pull sledders through the resort’s scenic acres
of wooded wonder. No need for snow, either. Providing the
temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, dogs can also pull a
four-wheeled Touri cart over bare ground. Either way, it’s a ride
like none other!

LAUTREC
Housing authentic prints of Post-Impressionist artist, Henri de
Toulouse-Lautrec, this Forbes Five-Star / AAA Five-Diamond
restaurant offers modern American cuisine with a French flair.
Patrons will appreciate an ingredient driven menu. Artistic extras
include tableside food presentations, custom champagne carte and
cheese carte service. Additionally, Lautrec offers two multi-course
tasting menus as well as an a la carte option for more tradtional
dinners.
Jackets are required for gentlemen; evening wear is appropriate for
ladies. Reservations are highly recommended. Children under 12
years old may not find Lautrec’s cuisine and style of service to their
liking.
AQUEOUS (Seasonal)
Dine in Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired style…with a panoramic view
of the spectacular Laurel Highlands. The property’s AAA Four-
Diamond restaurant, Aqueous is an upscale steakhouse experience in
a contemporary setting. Resort causal attire is acceptable.
THE CADDYSHACK
Located on The Links Course, the CaddyShack, a BBQ Joint, is
a casual fare restaurant serving mouthwatering sandwiches and
entrees. CaddyShack is open seasonally for lunch and dinner.
THE TAVERN
Nemacolin’s version of a traditional English-style pub. Dine in
the bar, or sidewalk café-style near the 8,500-gallon free-standing
saltwater aquarium. Fun for the kids!

AUTUMN
Warm, relaxed, casual. Located in the Lodge, Autumn’s dinner menu
favors a relaxed pace; a chance to enjoy a leisurely repast. With a
regional cuisine featuring the finest ingredients found in local farms
and with a focus on “sustainable seafood”, Autumn is “green” rated
by the Green Restaurant Association. The menu selections are
designed to create a multiple course meal, with wine suggestions for
