State of the Heart From the Director of Schools State of the Heart Dear Sacred Heart Alumni and Friends, A former parent wrote me a note that concluded by saying “do not rest on your laurels.” This statement is an excellent piece of advice and one I plan to follow during my tenure as Director of Schools. I believe St. Madeline Sophie and all the Religious of the Sacred Heart never rested on their laurels for a minute and I intend to do the same. One of my goals as Director is to work hard to ensure Sacred Heart Schools is forward thinking in its spirituality, academics, fine arts programs, and athletics. One document that will assist all of us in this endeavor is our most recently completed Strategic Plan, which is designed to be a living document to guide the Schools to the year 2013. Drafted under the leadership of Mindy Rogers, Chair of the Board of Trustees, this plan identifies seven areas as priorities for the Schools: Academics, Formation to Mission, Education of the Whole Child, Diversity and Multiculturalism, Community, Campus Environment, and “Sacred Heart Schools is in an exciting time in its history and to be part of this wonderful institution with its rich heritage is a reminder to us not to rest on our laurels.” To celebrate 100% participation of the 7th grade families in the Annual Fund, the 7th grade class was treated by Rich Dioli to a pizza party and an afternoon of bowling. Finance and Governance. These areas will serve as the foundation within which we will create new programs and improve existing programs to further the School’s mission. In addition to finishing the Strategic Plan, during the first semester of this year many achievements were made in numerous areas for the future success of the Sacred Heart Schools including the following: James Everitt, who served this year as interim Principal, was officially appointed Principal of Sacred Heart Prep in November (See page 18). The search for a new Principal at St. Joseph’s began with an appointment to be made in the spring. As of the writing of this letter, the seventh grade families reached 100% participation in the Annual Fund. Each year, through the generosity of our families, our Annual Fund is becoming stronger with more classes reaching a higher percentage of participation. This is truly a wonderful acknowledgement of all of the good work the school is doing to deliver an excellent education. Sacred Heart Schools is in an exciting time in its history and to be part of this wonderful institution with its rich heritage is a reminder to us not to rest on our laurels.
