The Changing Face of the Alumni Board by Leana Giannini (SHP ’75) Alumni Board President The Sacred Heart Schools Alumni Board of today has a much different face then a few years ago. We invite you to take a another look at who we are and what we do. The SHS Alumni Board was first established in the 70’s, and currently has 32 board members representing the classes of 1962 through 2003. The Board continues to plan reunions and traditional events, but the range of events have evolved into a richer, deeper alumni program. These events are geared to encourage our diverse alumni to remain an integral part of the Sacred Heart community and remain engaged in the educational mission. When our alumni return to campus and we have a chance to see SHS through their eyes, it is always interesting that although much on our Sacred Heart campus has changed, so much remains the same. Our Alumni Board is committed to its mission to represent over 5,000 alumni from both St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart Prep (formerly Convent of the Sacred Heart Menlo). From organizing “friend-raising events” such as movie premiers, Spirit of Mater celebrations, Gingerbread House decorating, Young Alumni sports competitions and the Christmas Party, to “fundraising activities” that support our school for the next generation, the board of today is very vital. This year in addition to the Young Alumni games, the Spirit of Mater Alumni Awards, Leana Giannini (SHP ’75) Alumni Board President Reunions, and Young Alumni Christmas Party, we will launch a new on-line community to keep our alumni in touch. Know that your board will continue to find interesting events to connect you back to your Sacred Heart community. If you would like to get involved, please consider becoming a class representative (or agent) or volunteering for a committee that supports alumni events. Please join us at our next alumni board meeting on March 27, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Otto Library. Mathew Fry has moved to Singapore and wrote that “My wife Caitlin (whom I met in college at Cornell) and I have three children, Alison, Eliza, and Walter. Since graduating from business school at UC Berkeley in 1999, I have worked for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in acquisitions and development. We moved to Singapore about 3 1/2 years ago with Starwood from Stamford, CT where we were for five years and I now oversee development for Starwood’s luxury brands (W and St. Regis) for all of Asia Pacific. Life in Singapore has been great…Well, that’s about it. I wish I could be there. I still have so many great memories from St. Joseph’s. It was a pretty idyllic place to go to school.” Mike Wyatt is living in Atherton, one block from St. Joe’s. He has been married to Gretchen (they met at Stanford) for 13 years and have three kids–two boys Andrew (8) and Morgan (5), and daughter Amy (3).
