Friends across the miles
FRIENDSHIPS are being forged across the world with the help of Redditch’s twinning associations.
Redditch is twinned with others in Tanzania, Jamaica, Pakistan and
France and each of the groups continue to grow and
strengthen over time.
One of the oldest twinning associations is The Friends of Auxerre,
which was formed in 1956 and, despite the French town being
more than 400 miles away, has produced strong friendships
between the two countries.
The group holds regular French classes to help people brush up
on their skills as well as a number of social activities such as quiz
nights, wine tasting, barn dancing and French film nights.
During the summer, members of the Friends of Auxerre stay with
families in the town to renew friendships, make new ones and learn
more about the French way of life.
On alternate years Auxerre residents visit Redditch and take part in
social as well as cultural events during their visit.
Annual membership for the Friends is £10 per family or £6 for an
individual. A variety of social events are held usually once a month
and a bi-monthly newsletter also keeps members up-to-date with events.
