Shelters to celebrate sport and nature MORE details have emerged about new plans for bus shelter art in the borough. Following the success of projects to brighten up shelters in Matchborough, Winyates and Woodrow, Redditch Community Safety Partnership is planning more art in Abbeydale and Batchley. Pupils from Birchensale Middle School and Trinity High School will design the shelters in collaboration with Birmingham-based arts group Hedz. They will replace old, graffitied and damaged bus shelters on Bromsgrove Road, Batchley Road and Easemore Road. These new shelters will be the first ones to be situated on highways rather than bus lanes. The Batchley Road shelters will celebrate sports in Redditch. Two further brick bus shelters one in Easemore Road and one by Northleach Close will be painted with murals designed by local young people and protected by an anti-graffiti coating. The finishing touches are being put to the guide, which is due to be launched later this year. But in the meantime its author, Community Safety Project Officer Peter Hill, has been busy spreading the home security message in a different way. The Redditch Borough Council officer has devised a training package to help local organisations with a duty of care to residents, such as housing associations, understand why burglars target certain homes and what measures can be taken to prevent them. To date officers from West Mercia Police, Victim Support volunteers and staff from the Council’s own Tenancy team have undergone the training. This spring will see Stonham Housing Association staff getting to grips with the home security agenda. The intensive, practical two-day course prepares participants for assessing potential home security issues. Attendees are encouraged to view properties through the eyes of a burglar to help them identify weaknesses. The course is free to appropriate Redditch-based organisations.
