General Information<br />

Registration Information<br />

All activities will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Most of our activities have limited<br />

enrollment, so register early! There are 2 easy ways for you to enroll:<br />

1. Register online. Go to www.oconeecounty.com and click “ Parks and Recreation” for our<br />

department website, then click “Registration,” or<br />

2. Come by <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park.<br />

Payment<br />

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express payments. You may also pay by check<br />

or money order. Cash not accepted.<br />

Refund Policy<br />

No refunds or credits will be granted within 5 days prior to a program draft or session start date. If<br />

you request a refund at least 5 days before the program begins, you have two options: (1) Receive<br />

an immediate credit for the full amount; or (2) Receive a refund, minus a 25% administration fee. In<br />

addition, a credit may be issued in the event an activity cannot be completed due to a documented<br />

medical problem. Credits granted may only be used for future OCPRD coordinated programs. Online<br />

registration convenience fees are non-refundable.<br />

This program is for boys and girls age 4. Participants work together with their parents to begin<br />

developing motor skills such as throwing, catching, batting, and kicking, all of which are basic skills<br />

used to play a variety of team sports. Sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 6:45 p.m.<br />

at Herman C. Michael Park June 5 – 21. Fee $45.<br />

Start Smart Golf<br />

This program is for girls and boys ages 5 - 7. Participants work together with their parents to begin<br />

developing the motor skills necessary to play golf by utilizing positive reinforcements and fun<br />

activities. Sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-6:45 p.m. at Herman C. Michael Park<br />

July 10 – 26. Fee $45.<br />

NEW! Select Football League<br />

The OCPRD Select Football League is designed to be a select school based feeder league to our<br />

middle and high school programs. Select Football is for players ages 7 to 12 who are selected by<br />

league officials after a two day tryout. Any players who try out for <strong>Oconee</strong> Select Football and are not<br />

picked will still have the opportunity to play in our recreation football program which has produced<br />

numerous high school and college players. Players must register in advance of the tryout in order to<br />

receive equipment. There is no payment due until players are notified of being selected.<br />

• 7/8 equipment handout is Saturday May 19th at Herman C Michael, Last name A-L at 9:00am M-Z at 9:45am<br />

• 9/10 equipment handout is Saturday May 19th at Herman C. Michael, Last name A-L at 10:30am M-Z at 11:30am<br />

• 11/12 equipment handout is Friday May 18th at Herman C Michael, Last name A-L at 6:30pm M-Z at 7:30pm<br />

• Practice begins Monday July 16th 6pm – 7:30pm<br />

Select teams will travel and play teams from <strong>Oconee</strong> and Barrow <strong>County</strong>. Practices will be Monday,<br />

Tuesday and Thursday from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The 11/12 age group will practice immediately after<br />

school in the Fall. Games will be on weeknights and one or two Saturdays.<br />

Fee: $135 plus an additional fee if selected for Select League.<br />

Academy, Classic and Athena Select Soccer Tryout dates and times are listed below;<br />

• U8 – U12 Junior Academy/Academy & U13 Athena/Classic Tryouts<br />

May 29 – 31 from 6 – 8 p.m. at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park Soccer Complex. Players need to attend all<br />

sessions as different skills will be assessed (at a minimum players should attend two sessions).<br />

residents of <strong>Oconee</strong> <strong>County</strong> and have turned age 6 on or before September 1, 2011 or will complete<br />

Kindergarten during the 2011-2012 school year.<br />

Teen Extreme Summer Camp - Passport to Fun<br />

Do you have plans for your Teens this summer We offer opportunities in field trips, swimming,<br />

sports, crafts, games, nature walks, and much more! Weekly sessions conducted Monday, May<br />

21 through Friday, August 3 at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park. The day begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes<br />

at 6 p.m. Eligibility - Camp is open to participants who are residents of <strong>Oconee</strong> <strong>County</strong> and have<br />

completed 6th grade by the start of camp. Any participant turning 15 during the summer will not be<br />

eligible for any session after their 15th birthday.

16 on a first come first served basis until all spaces<br />

are filled. Fee: $100 per session. First week’s<br />

payment is due in full at the time of registration. A<br />

$25 per child, per session, non-refundable deposit<br />

is due at registration to reserve any following<br />

weekly session. The balance of the weekly fee will<br />

be due on the Friday preceding each session for which the child is enrolled.<br />

Participants should provide their own yoga mat and 1 – 2 firm blankets.<br />

Integral Hatha Yoga –Incorporates the breath with yoga postures, helping<br />

to increase flexibility in the body and tone muscles while decreasing<br />

tension and relieving stress. Ages 15 and up.<br />

Our 18 hole course is open to the public during park hours. Loaner discs and bags are available at<br />

the Park office Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Join the fun and play for FREE!<br />

Walking Trails<br />

All of our parks have walking trails for everyone to enjoy. Herman C. Michael, Bogart Sports Complex<br />

and <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park have paved walking paths. Trails at Heritage Park are open for seasoned<br />

hikers, mountain bike riders and/or horseback riders. Check our website for trail maps.<br />

Picnic Shelters<br />

Three shelters are available which can be rented for your next party or event! Locations for the<br />

shelters are: Herman C. Michael Park,<br />

<strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park, and Bogart Sports<br />

Bark Park<br />

The Bark Park at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park is now<br />

Indoor Track and Gymnasium<br />

The indoor track and gymnasium at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park Community Center requires a onetime<br />

membership fee for use. Please check our website for the current open gymnasium calendar or call<br />

the Open Gymnasium Hotline at 706-769-3970.<br />

Fitness Center - Now with Free Wifi!<br />

Our fitness center located in the Community Center at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park features a wide array of<br />

state of the art cardiovascular and weight equipment including single and multi-station trainers. We<br />

now offer FREE Wifi in our Fitness Center. Fitness memberships are required for the exercise facility.<br />

Memberships are available for purchase at the Community Center front desk or online. For more<br />

8th annual Movie in the Park event is set for Saturday,<br />

May 12 at <strong>Oconee</strong> Veterans Park. This year we will<br />

be showing “Mr. Poppers Penguins.” This event has<br />

become one of <strong>Oconee</strong>’s favorite family activities. Lots<br />
