General Information
Registration Information
All activities will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Most of our activities have limited
enrollment, so register early! There are 2 easy ways for you to enroll:
1. Register online. Go to www.oconeecounty.com and click “ Parks and Recreation” for our
department website, then click “Registration,” or
2. Come by Oconee Veterans Park.
Payment
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express payments. You may also pay by check
or money order. Cash not accepted.
Refund Policy
No refunds or credits will be granted within 5 days prior to a program draft or session start date. If
you request a refund at least 5 days before the program begins, you have two options: (1) Receive
an immediate credit for the full amount; or (2) Receive a refund, minus a 25% administration fee. In
addition, a credit may be issued in the event an activity cannot be completed due to a documented
medical problem. Credits granted may only be used for future OCPRD coordinated programs. Online
registration convenience fees are non-refundable.

Summer Sports Camps

camps have limited enrollment.

Athletic Youth Programs
Start Smart Sports Developmental Program

This program is for boys and girls age 4. Participants work together with their parents to begin
developing motor skills such as throwing, catching, batting, and kicking, all of which are basic skills
used to play a variety of team sports. Sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 6:45 p.m.
at Herman C. Michael Park June 5 – 21. Fee $45.
Start Smart Golf

This program is for girls and boys ages 5 - 7. Participants work together with their parents to begin
developing the motor skills necessary to play golf by utilizing positive reinforcements and fun
activities. Sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-6:45 p.m. at Herman C. Michael Park
July 10 – 26. Fee $45.
NEW! Select Football League

The OCPRD Select Football League is designed to be a select school based feeder league to our
middle and high school programs. Select Football is for players ages 7 to 12 who are selected by
league officials after a two day tryout. Any players who try out for Oconee Select Football and are not
picked will still have the opportunity to play in our recreation football program which has produced
numerous high school and college players. Players must register in advance of the tryout in order to
receive equipment. There is no payment due until players are notified of being selected.
• 7/8 equipment handout is Saturday May 19th at Herman C Michael, Last name A-L at 9:00am M-Z at 9:45am
• 9/10 equipment handout is Saturday May 19th at Herman C. Michael, Last name A-L at 10:30am M-Z at 11:30am
• 11/12 equipment handout is Friday May 18th at Herman C Michael, Last name A-L at 6:30pm M-Z at 7:30pm
• Practice begins Monday July 16th 6pm – 7:30pm
Select teams will travel and play teams from Oconee and Barrow County. Practices will be Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The 11/12 age group will practice immediately after
school in the Fall. Games will be on weeknights and one or two Saturdays.
Fee: $135 plus an additional fee if selected for Select League.

Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department and the Oconee Futbol Club have
joined together to create the Oconee Soccer Alliance. See our website for additional
information on Oconee Soccer Alliance. Age Control Date: August 1, 2012.
Academy, Classic and Athena Select Soccer Tryout dates and times are listed below;
• U8 – U12 Junior Academy/Academy & U13 Athena/Classic Tryouts
May 29 – 31 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Oconee Veterans Park Soccer Complex. Players need to attend all
sessions as different skills will be assessed (at a minimum players should attend two sessions).
• U14 & Older Athena/Classic Tryouts
June 5 – 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Oconee Veterans Park Soccer Complex. Players need to attend all
sessions as different skills will be assessed (at a minimum players should attend two sessions).
There is no fee required to tryout and parents can register online for advanced tryout registration
at http://www.oconeecounty.com/ and follow the links to the parks and recreation department or
register onsite prior to the tryout. Online tryout registration will be available April 16.

walks, and much more! Join the FUN! Weekly
sessions conducted Monday, May 21 through
Friday, August 3 at Herman C. Michael Park. The
day begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 6 p.m. Eligibility - Camp is open to participants who are
residents of Oconee County and have turned age 6 on or before September 1, 2011 or will complete
Kindergarten during the 2011-2012 school year.
Teen Extreme Summer Camp - Passport to Fun
Do you have plans for your Teens this summer We offer opportunities in field trips, swimming,
sports, crafts, games, nature walks, and much more! Weekly sessions conducted Monday, May
21 through Friday, August 3 at Oconee Veterans Park. The day begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes
at 6 p.m. Eligibility - Camp is open to participants who are residents of Oconee County and have
completed 6th grade by the start of camp. Any participant turning 15 during the summer will not be
eligible for any session after their 15th birthday.

Summer Day Camp
Registration Information
Sign-ups will be conducted 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at
Herman C. Michael Park beginning Monday, April
16 on a first come first served basis until all spaces
are filled. Fee: $100 per session. First week’s
payment is due in full at the time of registration. A
$25 per child, per session, non-refundable deposit
is due at registration to reserve any following
weekly session. The balance of the weekly fee will
be due on the Friday preceding each session for which the child is enrolled.

Yoga Classes

Participants should provide their own yoga mat and 1 – 2 firm blankets.
Integral Hatha Yoga –Incorporates the breath with yoga postures, helping
to increase flexibility in the body and tone muscles while decreasing
tension and relieving stress. Ages 15 and up.

Our 18 hole course is open to the public during park hours. Loaner discs and bags are available at

Walking Trails
All of our parks have walking trails for everyone to enjoy. Herman C. Michael, Bogart Sports Complex
and Oconee Veterans Park have paved walking paths. Trails at Heritage Park are open for seasoned
hikers, mountain bike riders and/or horseback riders. Check our website for trail maps.
Picnic Shelters
Three shelters are available which can be rented for your next party or event! Locations for the
shelters are: Herman C. Michael Park,

Indoor Track and Gymnasium
The indoor track and gymnasium at Oconee Veterans Park Community Center requires a onetime
membership fee for use. Please check our website for the current open gymnasium calendar or call
the Open Gymnasium Hotline at 706-769-3970.

Fitness Center - Now with Free Wifi!
Our fitness center located in the Community Center at Oconee Veterans Park features a wide array of
state of the art cardiovascular and weight equipment including single and multi-station trainers. We
now offer FREE Wifi in our Fitness Center. Fitness memberships are required for the exercise facility.
Memberships are available for purchase at the Community Center front desk or online. For more

This player is familiar with the basic strokes and basic positioning on the court. Rules, scoring,

This week-long camp will introduce the young player to tennis. All fundamental strokes will be
taught using small racquets and foam/low-compression tennis balls on special 36-ft. courts. This
program will focus on gross motor skills, coordination, judgment, basic stroke mechanics and
having fun, fun, and more fun!

For the beginner player who has little or no experience and the Beginner/Intermediate player who is
beginning to rally the ball with a partner. Fundamental strokes, sportsmanship, footwork, scoring
and match play are introduced through fun games on 36-ft court (7+8) and 60-ft. (9+10) court.

For the campers who have taken a series of basic lessons. Basic strokes are reviewed with emphasis

Appalachee River. The large open air arena at
Heritage Park was created with agricultural and special events in mind. The feeder barn has thirtyone
