Pre-Registration and Admission
Pre-registration services are available for
all patients. Patients are encouraged to
request telephone pre-registration as far
in advance as possible, but allowing at
least 24 to 72 hours prior to scheduled
services for Eisenhower to verify insurance
coverage and benefits. Pre-registration
may be obtained by calling 760-837-8315.
You may also pre-register in person.
Hospital Admitting/Registration locations
are in the lobbies of: Main Hospital,
Tennity Emergency Department, Dolores
Hope Outpatient Care Center, Eisenhower
Lucy Curci Cancer Center, and the Renker
Wellness Center. You may pre-register and
register for any Eisenhower Medical Center
services at any of these locations except the
Tennity Emergency Department.
Hospital Charges
Because every patient requires individual
treatment, it is difficult to predict the
exact total for services you will receive.
To help anticipate what your bill may
look like, a copy of Eisenhower Medical
Center’s Chargemaster (list of medical
procedures/services and corresponding
prices), and a list of Twenty-Five
Commonly Charged Services or Procedures
may be reviewed upon request in the
Corporate Integrity Office. Please call
760-837-8691 for assistance.
Physician Charges
Charges for care provided by your
physician and other practitioners are not
included in your Eisenhower Medical
Center bill. Additional charges may
include your physician, surgeon,
emergency department physician,
anesthesiologist, radiologist, pathologist,
and other professionals. You will receive
a separate bill from those practices.
Please note: Eisenhower does not set
physicians’ charges. Physicians may or may
not be contracted with your insurance plan.
If a physician is not contracted with your
insurance plan, we encourage you to contact
the physician’s office to make financial
arrangements.
Emergency Department
If you do not have an existing relationship
with an Eisenhower physician or if the
emergency department physician
determines additional specialty expertise
is needed to properly care for you, a
physician will be assigned from the
Emergency Department. That physician
may or may not be contracted with your
insurance plan.
Please note: If you do not have health
insurance, emergency care will never be
delayed or withheld on the basis of your
ability to pay.
Discharge Policy
Eisenhower Medical Center has an
11 a.m. discharge time. Patients’ family
members are requested to make
arrangements for loved ones on the date
of discharge. Please work closely with
your physician and the hospital staff to
prepare for this discharge time. If you
need assistance, please contact your nurse.
Insurance Eligibility and Financial
Authorizations
Eisenhower Medical Center will verify
your insurance eligibility and authorization
for services to the best of its ability;
however, it is ultimately the patient’s legal
responsibility to ensure that authorizations
are arranged in advance of the services.
Eisenhower will schedule in advance
services that have not yet been authorized;
however, the service may be cancelled or
rescheduled if authorization is not
approved.
Patient Financial Responsibility
Payment Plans
All patients may request an interest-free
extended payment plan to pay their
financial responsibilities (co-pay,
deductible, uninsured discount balance).

Billing and Collection
Eisenhower Medical Center accepts
Medi-Cal, Medicare, Worker’s
Compensation, and most health insurances.
Eisenhower also participates in a broad
range of health maintenance organizations
(HMOs) and preferred provider
organizations (PPOs). A list of our
current contracted health insurance
plans can be found at www.emc.org.
Eisenhower is contractually obligated to
the insurance providers to collect the
co-pay, deductible or other Patient
Financial Responsibility. Patient
Financial Responsibility should be paid
prior to or at the time of service.
Eisenhower Medical Center automatically
bills the insurance plan; however, the
patient will ultimately be responsible for
any deductibles, co-pays, or other amounts
deemed as “Patient Financial
Responsibility.”
Eisenhower Medical Center allows 45
days for the insurance company to pay.
If payment is not received within 45
days, a Patient Financial Services
representative may contact the patient.
Any outstanding balances may be turned
over to a collection agency.
Eisenhower Medical Center accepts cash,
checks, American Express, Visa, Discover,
and MasterCard credit cards. Should you

your bill or charges, please call a Patient

FINANCIALLY QUALIFIED
PATIENT AND CHARITY
CARE PROGRAMS
As you anticipate hospitalization, tests or
procedures, Eisenhower Medical Center
wants you to be aware of our various
financial assistance programs in case you
have concerns about paying for your
medical care. All of these financial
assistance programs have eligibility
requirements. Eisenhower Medical
Center may discount some or all of your
bill and/or help you make payment
arrangements.
Eligibility for Charity Care
Patients who do not have health
insurance, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families
or Medicare and whose annual family
income does not exceed 350 percent of
the Federal Poverty Level
Patients who have insurance and
whose medically-related, out-of-pocket
expenses within the last twelve
months exceed 10 percent of their
annual family income and whose
annual family income does not exceed
350 percent of the Federal Poverty
Level
Applies to all services except elective
(not medically necessary) procedures,
such as cosmetic surgery

Eligibility Qualifications

or the Patient Financial Services office

Classic Medical Building, Suite 308,
to discuss eligibility.
Submit a completed Charity Care
Eligibility Screening Application along
with recent pay stubs and/or your
most recent federal income tax return.
Charity Care applies only to treatment
and services provided by Eisenhower
Medical Center. Physicians’ and other
providers’ fees are the sole responsibility
of the patient.
Government-Sponsored
Health Assistance Programs
Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, or other
government assistance program
applications are available. If you are
eligible for Medi-Cal, Medicare or other
government-sponsored assistance,
applications are available for the appropriate
program. To obtain an application,
please contact Patient Financial Services
at 760-773-1342, extension 6, or visit any
Admitting/Registration location.
Uninsured Patient Discount
Uninsured patients who do not qualify
for Charity Care discounts or other
government-funded programs are eligible
for an uninsured patient discount. If you
register as an uninsured patient, this
discount will automatically be applied
to your bill. If it is determined that you
have health insurance, this discount is
not applicable. For more information,
