<strong>WAIPA</strong>/AIM Pre-Event Training Session<br />

On May 9, a day-long <strong>WAIPA</strong> training<br />
initiative was organized as a pre-event<br />
to Dubai’s <strong>Annual</strong> Investment Meeting<br />
(AIM). Among other themes covered<br />
in the training, the former officer of<br />
the Invest in Spain Intelligence Unit<br />
reviewed the role played by strategic<br />
intelligence in an IPA, starting by<br />
covering basic definitions of Business<br />
Intelligence and other related<br />
concepts. ICA consultants, a Dutchbased<br />
consultancy firm, highlighted<br />
their view on the importance of social<br />
media to the IPA’s work. An officer<br />
from the UKTI Research & Customer<br />
Insight team took attendants step-bystep,<br />
from the starting point of using<br />
the Internet to nurture leaders, to<br />
the later step of following-up those<br />
leaders individually in a sales-like<br />
manner. The <strong>WAIPA</strong> Working Session<br />
was attended by IPA officers from<br />
countries as far apart as Malaysia,<br />
Brazil & Canada; Australia, Armenia,<br />
Uzbekistan & Cyprus.<br />
On May 10, on a <strong>WAIPA</strong>-led panel,<br />
the <strong>WAIPA</strong> President Alessandro<br />
Teixeira, along with Gita Wirjawan,<br />
Chairperson of the BKPM -<br />
Indonesia, discussed the emergence<br />
of the BRICs and the next 11<br />
economies, drawing distinctions<br />
between their countries’ economies
