AESSEAL ® Open Day continued
The Rt. Hon. William Hague M.P. and
Lord Sebastian Coe O.B.E. took time
out from the Tory Party Conference
to put on a show of their own on
Monday 6th Oct 2003.
They were in top form as they topped the bill at
the official opening of the £2M (€/$3M)
expansion at AESSEAL’s global technology
centre. The opening was of particular significance
to these two guests as they were both originally
from South Yorkshire.
Chris Rea delivers his speech to mark the opening of the
new building and also to thank the long serving
employees, some of whom are shown in the picture.
The expansion at AESSEAL ® is due to
continued success around the globe. Turnover
for 2003 was £41M ($70M). AES employs 655
people (400 in the UK) and has 42 branches
worldwide. As well as being a five-times winner
of the Queen's Award, it also won the BPMA
Customer Service of the Year Award 2003,
endorsed by World Pumps Magazine.
The new stores facility will hold up to 8 months stock of all
standard products in order to provide a rapid response to
customer orders. In total, floor space has increased by
around 60%.
During the Phase III opening ceremony awards
were handed out to staff who had served for
more than 10 years at AESSEAL ® . These
included Chris Booth, Rod Smith, Mick Cruise
and Jonathan Wilkinson of Mill Close; Mike
Carter and John Mousley of Upminster; and Jo
Huntington, Steve Towerton and Dave Cockerill
of Peterborough.
Mr Hague said he remembered asking his friend
what had set him on the road to success in
athletics, he replied “With the name Sebastian
in Sheffield, you had to learn to run!"
Lord Coe, before performing the serious
business of the opening, said he was “surprised
and delighted” to see a company from his home
town gaining success in both home and foreign
markets.
The new AESSEAL ® testing facility will help develop the
next generation of mechanical seals.
Investing in Schools
In 2002 AESSEAL ® took the leading
role in the provision of CAD/CAM
software with a market value of £20
million ($/€30M) to local educational
facilities in a mission to develop the
next generation of British designers.
Following the installation of AESSEAL ®
sponsored CAD seats and extensive training
from AESSEAL ® design personnel, one student
at Eckington School in Sheffield has won the
Regional CAD/CAM award in the 2003 "Young
Engineer for Britain" competition.
In addition, two other year 12 students won the
"Designer of the Future" competition which
involved CAD work with the software.
Jeremy Bladen, Teacher of Design and
Technology at Eckington school, said "I would
like to thank AESSEAL ® for their gift of the
design software. It has been of particular use
with GCSE and A-Level coursework and has
enhanced its quality in previously unimaginable
ways".
Children from Eckington School show some of the designs
they have created with AESSEAL ® sponsored software.
The initiative, in conjunction with UGS PLM
solutions, sponsored up to 5000 seats of the
latest computer aided design software to more
than 24 schools, colleges and universities in
Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley.
One of the award
winning designs from
Eckington School.
The "Back to Grass Roots Campaign" was
inaugurated after AESSEAL ® struggled to recruit
designers with relevant skills. Educational
institutions had found it impossible to finance
the latest 3D design software at £5,000
(€/$7,500) a copy so students and graduates
were leaving without essential skills which
would enable them to obtain a rewarding career
in design.
Alan Roddis, Engineering Director of AESSEAL
plc, said "It is widely recognised that the
campaign has been an overwhelming success.
The response from local school teachers has
been very refreshing. Eckington School is one of
24 participants and they have had some
fantastic results".
Andy Colverson demonstrating how to use the design
software to local school children from Birkdale School.
He continued "The quality and versatility of the
software has meant impressive practical work
has been produced and the Design and
Technology staff are looking forward to even
greater success for students in this area."
In 2004, at least a further FOUR Sheffield
schools will be given over 800 copies of the 3D
CAD software, making a total of 28
establishments gaining free design software,
supported and paid for by AESSEAL plc in
conjunction with UGS PLM Solutions.
Over 20 students and teachers from Tapton,
Birkdale, Eckington and Wales schools joined
members of the LEA to demonstrate the
schemes success on the open day.
A Birkdale student follows a standard training course for the
design of a basic mechanical seal.
Exhibition Honours
2003 saw the 3rd annual Pumps,
Valves and Pipes Exhibition being
held at the Kyalami Exhibition center
in Midrand, South Africa.
With AESSEAL ® becoming a major name in the
local market place, this exhibition helped to
further establish its position in this market.
The customer turn out this year far exceeded
the previous year's and our stand attracted a lot
of not only existing customers, but also a lot
new faces from the industry, in particular people
from the API market.
The local competition were caught completely
off guard. Nico Van Neikerk said “I think most of
the competition had no idea of our presence in
this area and the impact that we would make
here!”
In short, the show was a tremendous success,
and AESSEAL (Pty) have gained a lot of new
customers in many target markets.
AESSEAL’s Rob Waites, Nico Van Niekerk, and Bevan
Baybrook promote the MagTecta TM at the exhibition.
Sterling Contract
AESSEAL ® is proud to announce its
partnership with Sterling Fluid
Systems (UK), to provide service and
parts for the LaBour DZT pumps in
the field.
After careful time and consideration over the
design of the stand AESSEAL ® ended up
winning the award for the "Best Designed
Package Stand" at the exhibition.
AESSEAL ® has worked with Sterling over the
past 5 years to assist in designs to eliminate
some of these problems, which are now to be
jointly marketed to provide 6 key improvements.
These are: A heavy duty shaft to improve the
'stiffness ratio' to conform with ISO 5199;
Provision of a seal chamber to replace the
stuffing box to conform with ISO 5199;
Enhanced volute sealing; Improved bearing
seals; Bringing the pump up to full ATEX
compliance.
These upgrades will not only provide greater
MTBF by increasing mechanical seal and
bearing life, but also provide the user with a fully
ATEX conforming pump.
From left: Steve Alexander (AESSEAL ® Account Manager),
Steve Graham (Managing Director of Sterling Fluid
Systems (UK), John Pedder (AESSEAL ® Business
Development Manager) and Martin Copson (Service
Director - Sterling Fluid Systems UK).
This pump was one of the most popular in the
Chemical Process Industry and formed part of
the rotating equipment mainstays of British
chemical manufacturing. However there were
inherent weaknesses in the design when and if
the pumps were operated off BEP (best
efficiency point).
AESSEAL ® will solicit contracts with user
companies to provide these pump upgrades
along with a cartridge sealing solution.
The Sterling brochure
L-UK-STERLING-01
gives full details of
upgrades available in
the partnership
agreement.
AESSEAL ® ISO 14001 Approved
AESSEAL ® has officially become an environmental technology company after
winning ISO 14001 environmental recognition.
This follows global certification for ISO 14001 at
other AESSEAL ® branches in the UK and South
Africa.
AESSEAL ® has been helping customers
minimise their environmental impact by sealing
rotating equipment and preventing leakage of
harmful liquids and gases to the atmosphere for
over 20 years.
Above: Mark Johnson and Peter Papagiannis are presented
with the ISO14001 certificate by Chris Loughlin, CEO of Lloyds
Now AESSEAL ® has received recognition for its
own Environmental Management System by
being awarded the ISO 14001 Certificate of
Approval from Lloyds Register Quality
Assurance.
With environmental issues making headlines
around the world on an almost daily basis, there
is strong and growing pressure for large
international companies to demonstrate their
environmental credentials.
The ISO 14001 certification is further evidence
of AESSEAL's commitment to protecting the
environment.
Achema 2003
In May 2003 AESSEAL ® attended ACHEMA, the
biggest tradeshow worldwide for the chemical
and process industry, which takes place every
3 years.
Mark Johnson, AESSEAL's Quality Assurance
Manager who was instrumental in gaining
certification said "AESSEAL ® has always been
passionate about protecting the environment
and has had an Environmental Management
System in place for many years. Independent
assessment by Lloyd's Register Quality
Assurance provides international recognition
that AESSEAL ® has an effective Environmental
Management System that will continually
monitor and improve the company's
environmental performance."
Furthermore AESSEAL's Environmental
Management System is a vital part of its fully
integrated "QuEST" management system. This
system covers all the important aspects of the
company's operations including quality, training
and health and safety as well as environmental
issues.
The award is certification for AESSEAL's Global
Technology Centre headquarters in Rotherham,
UK, which have just seen a further £2M (€/$3M)
investment in Phase III of its expansion
programme, necessary to meet increasing
world-wide demand for its products.
The award was presented to Mark Johnson and
Peter Papagiannis by the Chief Operating
Officer of Lloyds (LRQA), Mr. Chris Loughlin
BSc, CEng, MBA, at the official opening of
Phase III on the 6th October.
It is expected that the award will help
AESSEAL ® to continue to increase its market
share as procurement departments in both the
Private and Public Sectors are under increasing
pressure to demonstrate their commitment to
the environment by purchasing from suppliers
that are certified to ISO 14001.
There were over 3800 Exhibitors from 48
countries presented in 12 groups on an area of
138,000 sqm (1.5M sqft). The total number of
visitors reached nearly 200,000.
The exhibition was deemed an overwhelming
success with hundreds of visitors to the stand.
There was particular interest in Mixer
mechanical seals and the MagTecta TM bearing
protector.
20 New Manufacturing Jobs
AESSEAL ® is set to create 20 new
manufacturing jobs.
Following the completion of the latest phase of
the expansion to AESSEAL's Global Technology
Centre, more than £1.6M (€/$2.4M) is to be
invested in new equipment to expand
manufacturing capacity. As a result 20
completely new manufacturing jobs will be
created, mainly in the Rotherham, UK area.
In 2004, the second full year since its launch,
sales of the MagTecta TM will approach £1Million
(€/$1.5M).
The machines have also been specified to
increase the machining 'envelope' or size of
parts which can be manufactured. From
January 2004 onwards AESSEAL ® will be able
to machine parts of 36" (900mm) diameter,
weighing up to 3300Ibs (1.5 Tonnes) in stainless
steel or other, tougher, alloys.
The plans for the new
customer service
manufacturing cell at
the existing Mangham
Road facility.
AESSEAL ® , the Rotherham based mechanical
seal manufacturer, has seen sales increase from
£35Million (€/$52M) in 2002 to £41Million
($70M) in 2003.
The growth has been fuelled by a technical
revolution with over 30 patents being filed and
52 completely new products launched in the
past 5 years.
Alan Roddis with the MagTecta TM mechanical seal which
will be manufactured in the new facilities.
Gordon Bridge, Chief Executive of AESSEAL ®
said "This latest investment is a key element in
our drive to grow our global business. The 20
new jobs created will increase our global
workforce to nearly 700 and help maintain our
high levels of customer service as we continue
to grow."
In order to maintain growth, AESSEAL ® invested
£2M ($/€3M) into its research, development
and manufacturing facilities in Rotherham
earlier this year and increased floor space by
60%.
The latest, additional £1.6M (€/$2.4M)
investment on nine new machines is designed
to complement the earlier expansion and help
produce the next generation of technically
advanced products.
6
One of those products is the MagTecta TM
Bearing Protector. This revolutionary new
product is a Patent Pending double mechanical
seal which solves the age old problem of how to
protect bearings from moisture contamination.
Sales of this product since its launch have
exceeded all expectations not only in the UK,
but also in overseas markets.
One of the new machines is delivered to the Mill Close
manufacturing facility.

Customer Service Around the Globe
One of AESSEAL ® Malaysia’s largest customers
called them with news that a competitor’s seal
had failed for the third time in one month in a
critical application.
Like many other jobs in the Malaysian market,
several other competitor companies were given
the opportunity to tender for this job. There was
also the problem of timescales; if AESSEAL ® did
not complete the job on time then they would
face penalties.
Koh Choon Siew, Head of AESSEAL Malaysia,
immediately set out plans to see if the order was
possible.
Early the next day (Friday) Koh checked if an
AS15 system from AESSEAL MCK was
available from stock. At the same time he
checked to see if a seal was available from
stock at the AESSEAL ® headquarters in
Rotherham, UK.
All the seal companies were competing very
strongly but due to AESSEAL’s support and
services they were asked to do the job.
On Saturday morning Koh called Rotherham to
check if anyone could help get a DMSF TM seal
ready over the weekend.
John Bright, Technical Manager said that it
would be possible because staff were willing to
work through the weekend as it was an
emergency case. Koh tried to get a few days
extra from the customer because it was the
weekend and also because Monday was a
holiday in UK.
Three Little Letters
There are three little letters (PDO) which mean so much to
AESSEAL ® .
After many months of discussions, seal installations and
vender approval activity, AESSEAL ® is now an approved
vendor to PDO (Petroleum Development Oman).
PDO is part of Shell and a major player in the Oil
Extraction industry in the Middle East.
Phil Berry, AESSEAL ® Export Manager said "This is
a significant milestone for AESSEAL ® , in the pursuit
of business in the Extraction, Refinery and
Petrochemical industries".
However, Koh was called by his customer on
Sunday for the final meeting where he was
given no option but to deliver within the
originally agreed timescale in time for Thursday.
The team in Rotherham agreed to work on the
Bank Holiday Monday in order to deliver the
seal on time.
The team in Rotherham
worked most of Monday in
order to make sure that the
seal would be delivered to
Malaysia on Tuesday night.
Koh rushed to the airport
on Wednesday morning to
pick up the seal and took it
straight to the customer.
The seal was fitted
immediately and the
customer was very happy.
Koh said, “Our competitors
could not believe the speed
with which we worked on
this job as it was a holiday
in UK.”
AESSEAL Malaysia SDN BHD,
Selangor, Malaysia.
AESSEAL Malaysia has since supplied several
more seals to this plant on the back of the
customer service provided on the original job.
Koh Choon Siew said, “I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all of those people in
Rotherham and Malaysia who played such an
important part in helping us win this business.”
National Business Awards
AESSEAL ® has won "The Best Use of
Technology" section of the National
Business Awards 2003 for the North
East Region.
"Firstly we looked to see if we could purchase a
system from an existing supplier but we could
not find anything that matched the brief. So we
had to develop our own solution, totally inhouse."
AESSEAL ® was given the award for its
innovative, web based, product selection
technology.
The solution was to produce an Internet based
tool (for which a Patent is Pending) which allows
staff or customers to generate assembly
drawings of AESSEAL ® products as well as
check prices and availability from anywhere in
the world.
This unique development has saved thousands
of man-hours and helped improve still further
AESSEAL's service to customers. It has also
removed the possibility of making errors
because it is fully automated.
In the last three months around 1500 drawings,
which would have traditionally taken 8 hours
each to produce, have been generated on the
system. Timing has now been reduced to 4
minutes each.
Jonathan Wilkinson collects the National Business Award
for “Best Use of Technology”.
This unique technology has allowed AESSEAL ®
to expand, whilst maximising staff efficiency,
and the Company is now on target to produce
6000 drawings this year.
A typical AESSEAL ® product could have over
100 million different variations of components,
materials and sizes. With so many options it
was essential to develop a system to ensure the
continuation of high standards of customer
service for which AESSEAL ® is renowned.
Director of Engineering, Alan Roddis, said "We
wanted a platform available to anyone, at any
time which makes time zones irrelevant and
maximises business hours. The obvious
platform for this was the Internet. The problem
was then to develop a system that worked
effectively and efficiently on this platform for our
requirements.
21 Today! 21 Today! 21 Today!
AESSEAL ® Celebrates its Direct
Presence in 21 Countries.
and mining industries where AESSEAL ®
previously enjoyed most of its business.
had
AESSEAL ® , the UK based manufacturer of
mechanical seals, has announced that it now
has a direct subsidiary or Joint Venture for its
operations in 21 different countries, following
the creation of a Joint Venture in Queensland,
Australia.
Almost all of the overseas operations are sales
and service organisations, which support the
manufacturing output of the Company's
Rotherham and Bradford production facilities.
Company products are now actively sold
directly and via Distributors in 55 countries.
Chris Rea purchased an interest in AES
Engineering Ltd. in 1979 when the company
was a distributor for an American manufacturer
of mechanical seals. In October 1981 the
company was given 2 days notice that the
American manufacturer was withdrawing their
right to sell the product. The AES response was
to enter into competition.
Number 21, Australia, has a special significance
for the company. Chris Rea reported "By 1987
it was clear that there was a terminal decline in
the business levels obtainable from the steel
“The company either exported or died. We
decided that Australia would be our first export
market. Why I would like to say that it was
following diligent and professional market
research, but in reality revenge was the motive.
“The representative of the American company
that had dismissed AES was also responsible
for Australia. I naïvely believed that attacking
the Australian market would "help get my own
back"."
In 1987 Rea flew to Australia to see what the
market was like and to at least generate enough
revenue to cover the plane ticket.
He stopped in Singapore, Perth, Melbourne and
Sydney and appointed a Distributor in each
location. On his second trip he appointed a fifth
Distributor, with whom AESSEAL ® have just
signed a Joint Venture Agreement.
Australian Joint Venture
The team at Sealing Technology which will become AESSEAL Australia Pty Ltd.
It is with great pleasure that
AESSEAL plc can announce a Joint
Venture in Australia with one of its
principle distributors Sealing
Technology.
The new company will be known as AESSEAL
Australia Pty Ltd and will be T/A Sealing
Technology.
The opportunity came about as a consequence
of one of the co-founders, directors and partners
in Sealing Technology, Paul Conway, choosing to
retire from the business. In his retirement speech
Paul was unequivocal in stressing that the future
of the business and the opportunity that it
offered the employees of Sealing Technology
was paramount in his decision to sell his 50%
shareholding to AESSEAL ® .
The business is primarily a Mechanical Seal
business incorporating full seal repair facilities as
well as pump repairs and currently employs 25.
Brad Ryan who is AESSEAL’s partner and
Managing Director of this new joint venture has
been vociferous in his support of AESSEAL ®
stating at the announcement to our employees
that “AESSEAL ® were considered the only
viable partner for the future, with objectives,
ideals and philosophies that coincide with those
of Sealing Technology. The future with
AESSEAL ® is our opportunity to maximise
development in Australia for our company and
our people.”
Paul and Anne Conway (left), Brad and Jenny Ryan (middle)
and Horst Yarrow (right) meet to arrange the joint venture.
Sealing Technology have represented
AESSEAL ® in the state of Queensland since
1987 and in the States of South Australia and
Northern Territories for the last two years.
Brad Ryan (left), who will become Managing Director of
AESSEAL Australia Pty Ltd agrees the joint venture with
Horst Yarrow, AESSEAL Export Manager.
Subsequent to the announcement in
Queensland, Brad and Horst undertook a trip
around Australia to visit AESSEAL's other
distributors. All three of these, namely
Australian Engineering, Visco and Sealswest,
were enthusiastic about the opportunities that
our presence in Australia will present for
accelerated future development.
AESSEAL Inc Hosts Most Successful
Sales Conference to Date
"The Time to Succeed is Now," was
the key theme of this year's annual
sales conference held at the J.W.
Marriott's beautiful Grande Lakes
Resort in Orlando, Florida, USA in
October 2003.
Saturday was packed full of informative
discussions and launches including the
introduction of the innovative Extreme Systems-
Freeze Fuse and Thermal Fuse and a
presentation of reactor seal business
opportunities.
Peter Dunand, AESSEAL Distributor Sales
Manager, kicked off the conference in grand
style with a welcome to both distributors and
AES attendees. Break-out sessions included
hands on product training, computer software
and AES software suite training, and contract
service provider meetings. The day concluded
with the Silver Level Distributor Dinner where a
number of US distributors and direct sales
representatives received awards.
The following day included ROI, Systems,
MagTecta TM training and the launch of Alan
Roddis' new web sales territory database. The
most recent edition to the AES software suite,
including the Asset Health Management
software, was premiered. The attendees
enjoyed the afternoon off with Peter Dunand
hosting his annual golf tournament.
Peter Dunand
formally opens the
2003 AESSEAL ®
Sales Conference.
Many industry tools and hidden selling secrets
were revealed such as sealing the pulp and
paper industry, chocolate and confectionery,
and US refineries.
The conference attendees left armed with
knowledge and tools that will further grow their
business and increase sales for both
distributors and AESSEAL ® alike.
Keynote Speaker - Al Wilcox of Cargill
14
The keynote speaker at the 2003 International
Sales Conference was Al Wilcox, the Division
Maintenance and Purchasing Manager for
Cargill Crop Nutrition. This speech added a
special perspective to this conference, the
expectations of what a key customer expects
from a select supplier partnership.
Introduced by Scott Yeo, AESSEAL ® Sales
Engineer to the Bartow, Greenbay and
Riverview Cargill Plants, Mr. Wilcox went on to
provide insight into what it is like to be the
customer in the supplier partnership. Mr. Wilcox
explained "When change is created from select
supplier partnerships, there is a major cultural
change requirement in the underlying culture of
the corporation.
“This doesn't come easy, there is a big
difference between true leadership and
management in our organization and change
takes time. It is very important for you, as our
supplier, to understand our business plan and
to articulate to us why change will be beneficial
and how it will fit into our business plan. You
must find the leaders that will challenge the
status quo and work with us, constantly
measuring and communicating your efforts".
Tom Grove commented on the speech "Al
characterized the 10 ways the supplier and the
customer can kill a partnership relationship.
One of the items that stood out is when the
local representative goes to the plant and tells
the maintenance supervisor "we have an
alliance agreement and you can only buy from
me". We know that you can never force your
way with these agreements and AESSEAL ®
knows it is important to get "buy-in" from all of
the customer departments and to constantly
prove our value in the relationship, that is why
we work so hard to actually measure their
mean-time-between-failure,” Grove added.
Mr. Wilcox continued to field questions at the
end of his speech and answered one-on-one
questions as the first day of meetings
adjourned. He concluded "the AESSEAL ®
program has been an excellent example of a
successful alliance agreement, this opportunity
to address the AESSEAL ® team and to hear
your questions and comments has important
benefits to Cargill as well as AESSEAL ® ".

Refinery Reference that made a
Difference!
Over the last 3 years, the AESSEAL ® service
provider, Advanced Fluid Technology, has
provided such exceptional service to the
Calumet Lubricants Company - Shreveport
Refinery in Louisiana USA, the Plant
Engineer/Chief Rotating Equipment Engineer,
John Swanson, took time out of his busy
schedule to provide a reference to another
refinery which was over 10,000 miles away in
South Africa.
AFT/AES has proven to be able to provide
admirable on-site service and a strong
knowledge base of pumps, seals and systems.
The movement of my MTBF has been achieved
by seal failure analyses and immediate actions
toward correcting identified problems."
John Swanson confirmed that AFT and
AESSEAL ® were responsible for savings, in his
Refinery, of between $/€70k to $/€100k (£70k
pounds) in the last 24 months.
16
He went on to say "Along with the seal cost
savings, I have realized savings in rotating
equipment parts and service costs. With the
help of my AFT field service/sales
representative, Dale Gremillion, the pre-
Calumet MTBF of 20 months has improved, on
rotating pumps, to a current 62 months. There
were many operating system and equipment
operating factors that have affected this move,
but credit is still due to our seal group.

AESSEAL ® Launches the BDTP TM
Barrier Fluid Out
The Bellows Outboard Rotary Seal face gives
this seal the ability to seal relatively hot barrier
fluids without leaking externally.
Barrier Fluid In
The BDTP will reliably circulate barrier fluid
irrespective of the direction of shaft rotation
with a Patent Pending pumping
ring.
BDTP directed barrier fluid circulation
The BDTP is an innovative hybrid
design, modular to the highly
successful BDFI.
Its unique design comprises of tandem bellows
units and an integral, bi-directional flow inducer.
The bellows outboard unit (Patent Pending) is
ideally suited to replace the semi–dynamic
sliding elastomer of a conventional pusher seal.
This allows the bellows design to be more
readily applied to thermal applications.
Removing the heat at the inboard
faces is critical for any double
mechanical seal, more so for a
seal which may be applied to
thermal applications. The BDTP
directed barrier fluid flow path
achieves effective heat removal at
both sets of seal faces.
This product is inventoried in
ANSI sizes and has its own
brochure which is shown on the
right. This can be ordered by
quoting the following reference:L-
New Seal Support Systems
New SW02 Flow Fuse
This new development allows the use of a water
management system in applications which cannot
tolerate product contamination upon catastrophic
seal failure.
When water and pressure are lost due to the natural leakage
across the seal faces, the system allows the water level and
pressure to be maintained with the aid of an integral pressure
regulator. However, if the inboard seal fails, the Flow Fuse
immediately shuts down and prevents further plant water
entering the vessel.
The Flow Fuse also contains an integral check valve to ensure
that the plant water supply is not contaminated should the
product leak into the system.
To order this brochure quote reference L-UK/US-SWOZ-01.
Climate adversely effects a vast proportion of
sealing systems and processes worldwide.
AESSEAL ® has now introduced two new concepts
which will revolutionize barrier fluid support systems in
these extreme climates.
New Extreme
Systems
The Freeze Fuse is designed for use where barrier fluid
is prone to freezing. Water is expelled through the Freeze
Fuse and warmer water from the plant line is introduced
into the vessel which stops the barrier fluid freezing.
The Thermal Fuse is designed for use in areas where
barrier fluid becomes so hot that the pressure and
temperature in the system rise way above what is
desired. So the thermal fuse expels the hottest water
and introduces cooler water from the plant line.
To order this brochure quote reference L-UK/US-FUSE-01.
New Buffer Fluid Systems
The new Buffer Reservoir is an easily installed,
low-cost, low-maintenance sealant system for
use with double mechanical seals on crystallizing,
sedimentary or hot products.
This unpressurized, certified leak free vessel incorporates a
temperature indicator and a float valve to automatically maintain
a certain water level within the tank. It is also based around a
modular design enabling very competitive pricing.
The buffer fluid bathes the seal faces, preventing evaporation or
overheating. This greatly increases the expected life of seals on
duties such as starch, sugar solutions, caustics, beer wort, hot
water and many others.
seal technology.
AESSEAL plc hopes to become part of the
Members Council next year. The remit of the
council is to formulate and help to implement
the Pump Centre policy and strategy to end
users, by providing a forum for the exchange of
ideas and discussion of relevant issues.
many thousands of successful T05 installations.
For further information on the product range,
contact AESSEAL ® sales managers Chris
Rehmann (USA) and/or John Phipps (UK).
Members Council representatives are expected
to champion ideas for projects, events,
research, training and recruitment which are
relevant to their own Company's interests. The
Council is drawn from all sectors of the pump
industry and meets on a quarterly basis.
New SSAI TM Component Seal
AESSEAL ® has launched the new SSAI TM component seal which has a unique
short working length.
Due to the fact that the springs are out of the
product, spring clogging is non-existent.
1/3rd less than SAI TM
The standard SSAI TM design.
This seal is based around the AESSEAL ® SAI
component seal but has a shorter working
length of up to 1/3rd less enabling it to fit in
smaller types of equipment.
The SSAI also contains a Retained Rotary.
This feature prevents the rotary seal face
separating from the inner barrel during seal
installation.
The unique design of the SSAI also eliminates
shaft wear and expensive equipment
refurbishment costs.
To order the brochure for this product quote
reference L-UK/US-SSAI-01.
It also benefits from most of the features of the
SAI TM such as Balanced Seal Faces. The rotary
seal is hydraulically balanced to close under
product pressure.
22
The SSAI also has a robust machined drive
design and the multi-spring design creates
even seal face loading.

Return on Investment
Seal pays for itself within 10 days of installation!
A cardboard manufacturer in the
South East of England has been
overwhelmed by the success of a
recently installed MagTecta TM Bearing
Protector.
Not only has it outperformed anything else they
have tried before but also it has proven to be a
sound financial investment as it paid for itself
within 10 days of installation.
So with the reduced maintenance and running
costs the cardboard manufacturers have agreed
that the return on their investment for this
mechanical seal is only 10 days since
installation. They have since purchased 5 more
MagTectas.
The MagTecta
mechanical seal
can bring huge
cost savings.
The 2.750" MagTecta LXS was installed on a
Lohmann Stolterfoht Screw press gearbox to
seal the oil filled gearbox chamber.
The company had previously used a lip seal
arrangement. This had performed so poorly that
they had to place a bucket underneath the lip
seal each day to collect the leaking oil and then
refill the gearbox before they finished a shift.
This refilling took a full hour each day.
Gary Mills, AESSEAL ® Sales Engineer to this
company said "It wasn't just the refilling that
was a problem for them but the fact that the oil
had been leaking onto operators and caused a
health and safety issue.
The new MagTecta ROI
software justifies the
investment for purchasing
a MagTecta seal.
Rachael Campey, Editor of the Yorkshire Post, a major UK newspaper
publication, visited AESSEAL ® during December.
Rachael was in Rotherham as part of an event
to promote business success in Rotherham
organised by the Rotherham Industrial
Development Office (RIDO). AESSEAL ® was
chosen as a leading Rotherham business.
Rachael saw how mechanical seals were
developed and manufactured and commented
on ‘the cleanliness of the factory and the
efficiency of the whole process.’
