Guidelines on gender-ethical reporting
• In countries where voluntary interruption of pregnancy is illegal, statistics
show that women who die after terminating pregnancy are those from the
vulnerable sectors of society. Women who can afford to pay for a safe, albeit illegal,
termination of pregnancy are less likely to put their lives at risk.
• Access to information about women’s rights in regard to sexual and reproductive
health is often non-existent, even when public programs exist that afford free
contraception. This situation restricts women’s ability to find and choose
appropriate contraception.
• Where possible, provide information about health centres in the region and the
type of access afforded to women and men.
