De [apte ani primar al Sibiului, Klaus Werner Johannis (48 de ani)
este, de la 1 ianuarie 2007, primarul unei capitale culturale
europene. El are meritul de fi adus ora[ul pe care `l conduce `n
aten]ia `ntregului continent. Sub angajamentul s\u, Sibiul a fost numit,
`mpreun\ cu Luxemburg, Capital\ European\ a Culturii pentru anul 2007.
Johannis este licen]iat `n fizic\ la Universitatea Babe[-Bolyai din Cluj.
Dup\ terminarea facult\]ii a fost mai `nt‚i profesor de fizic\ la Liceul
Samuel von Brukenthal din Sibiu. Dup\ 1989 a devenit inspector [colar
general adjunct, apoi inspector [colar general al jude]ului Sibiu.
CUM ESTE S| FII PRIMARUL UNEIA DINTRE CAPITALELE EUROPEI
Este o senza]ie foarte pl\cut\ s\ fii primarul unui ora[ care atrage
aten]ia at‚tor europeni. ~n acela[i timp, [i o responsabilitate mare.
Programul Sibiu - Capital\ Cultural\ European\ 2007 este f\r\ precedent
la noi `n ]ar\ [i reprezint\ o [ans\ nu doar pentru sibieni, ci [i pentru
Rom‚nia: aceea de a ne prezenta `n fa]a europenilor cu ce facem mai bine
- cultura. Importan]a evenimentului este cu at‚t mai mare cu c‚t 2007
este anul `n care am devenit membri ai Uniunii Europene.

Pentru Sibiu este o recunoa[tere a ceea ce are mai atractiv, adic\ a
frumuse]ii centrului istoric [i a valorii programului cultural preg\tit pentru
anul 2007. Ne bucur\m c\ publica]ia britanic\ atrage aten]ia cititorilor
din acea parte a Europei asupra Sibiului, care merit\ o c\l\torie
chiar [i din cel\lalt cap\t al continentului.
Argumentele [i aprecierile topului sunt cu at‚t mai valoroase, cu c‚t,
[tim cu to]ii, presa britanic\ nu a avut prea multe cuvinte de laud\
despre ]ara noastr\.
CE ARE SIBIUL SPECIAL ~N ACEST AN
~n 2007, Sibiul `[i va r\sf\]a vizitatorii cu o ofert\ de excep]ie: un program
cultural creativ, dinamic, t‚n\r, bazat pe diversitatea popula]iilor,
culturilor [i limbilor vorbite aici, care va produce experien]e unice.
For seven years the mayor of Sibiu, Klaus Werner Johannis, 48, is,
since January 1, 2007, the mayor of Europe’s cultural capital. He
has the merit of having brought the city he leads to the attention
of the entire continent. Due to his commitment, Sibiu was named, together
with Luxembourg, the European Capital of Culture for the year 2007.
Johannis graduated physics studies at the Babes-Bolyai Universtiy in
Cluj. After graduating from college he was first a physics teacher at the
Samuel von Brukenthal in Sibiu. After 1989 he became general deputy
school inspector and then general school inspector of the Sibiu County.
HOW IS IT LIKE TO BE THE MAYOR OF ONE OF EUROPE’S
CAPITALS
It is a very nice feeling to be the mayor of a city that draws the attention
of some many Europeans. In the same time, it is a great responsibility.
The program Sibiu-European Capital 2007 does not have a precedent in
our country and it is an opportunity not only for the people of Sibiu, but
for Romania: of presenting ourselves in front of the Europeans with what
we do best - culture. The importance of the event is furthermore important,
as 2007 is the year we became members of the European Union.
RECENTLY, SIBIU WAS INCLUDED BY THE BRITISH DAILY “THE
GUARDIAN“ ON ONE OF THE FIRST TEN PLACES OF THE “50
FABULOUS LOCATIONS OF THE WORLD“ WEBSITE. SIBIU IS
ON THE NINETH POSITION, BEING OUTRUN BY NEW YORK,
LONDON, PISA, PALERMO, CHICAGO, PARIS. WHAT DOES THIS
MEAN FOR THE CITY
For Sibiu it is a recognition of its most attractive sites - the beauty of
the historical center and the value of the cultural program prepared for
the year 2007. We are glad the British publication draws the readers’
attention from that part of Europe on Sibiu, which deserves a journey
even from the other side of the continent. The arguments and appreciations
of the top are even more valuable because, as we all know it, the
British media did not have too many praising words for our country.
