Final Report, SONS Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Gulf of Mexico, 27 April — 24 September 2010<br />

NAVSEA/SUPSALV joined the Coast Guard Lead Interagency Alternative Technology<br />

Assessment Program (IATAP). The IATAP planned to evaluate new technological concepts as<br />

related to the Deepwater Horizon response. U.S. Navy participants included Capt. Gunzel<br />

(SUPSALV 00C Reserve Det.), Dr. Hudson (NSWCCD), and Mr. Urban (PCCI). The group<br />

was formed to provide a conduit to U.S. <strong>NAVY</strong> resources as needed by IATAP.<br />

SUPSALV OSR equipment and 129 personnel were positioned throughout Panama City,<br />

Pensacola, Mobile, Bayou La Batre, Pascagoula, Gulfport, Ship Island, Slidell, Venice, and Port<br />

Fourchon/Grand Isle.<br />

SUPSALV continued coordinating operations from Gulfport (at State Pier) positioning,<br />

maintaining, and operating SUPSALV OSR equipment assets as directed by the USCG FOSC.<br />

The total SUPSALV Oil Containment Boom in GOMEX to date was 98,000′ with 63,200′ of<br />

boom deployed.<br />

Seventeen of eighteen Class V Skimming Systems, one Class XI Skimmer System, and four<br />

High Speed Current Buster VOSS with crews were positioned at the USCG designated locations.<br />

The CNIC management team continued to receive their equipment. GPC personnel continued to<br />

assist with offloading and placement of the equipment.<br />

Note: Total oil recovered to date: VOSS offshore - 17,700 barrels and Class V near-shore -<br />

1729 barrels.<br />

The Pecos barge, with two Class V Skimmers on board and four spud/jack-up barges with five<br />

Class V Skimmers were on board (assigned to near-shore Task Force under ICP Mobile),<br />

operated between Pascagoula and Pensacola skimming sporadic oil pockets and streams.<br />

OSV Bayou Bee continued skimmer maintenance.<br />

There was still no replacement vessel for OSV Wes Bordelon. GPC personnel at Venice utilized<br />

smaller vessels to inspect/repair Oil Containment Boom.<br />

GPC personnel onshore in Grand Isle continued to support near-shore recovery operations. The<br />

Class V Skimmers continued skimming as directed.<br />

OSVs MV John Coghill and AHTS Vanguard operated two High Speed Current Buster VOSS<br />

each, and OSV MV Renee with a Class XI Skimmer System continued skimming operations near<br />

the Deepwater Horizon site.<br />
