<strong>Bridges</strong> on driven steel piles
BridgePro took delivery of a Movax SG-60V Side-Grip vibrator
and an IH-25D pile hammer in January in Tasmania,
Australia. BridgePro is a specialist bridge construction
contractor specialising in precast modular bridges with
spans between 6 and 21m. With the purchase of the piling
equipment they have created a sister company called
PilePro better reflecting the new business opportunities
created by the vibrator and hammer.
The combination of the SG-60V vibrator and IH-25D
hammer was chosen after an extensive worldwide
search to find the most versatile and productive piling
system to complement their innovative precast bridge
system. With jobs generally small in size and transport
a key consideration, the relative light weight of the two
attachments and suitability to operate off a moderately
sized excavator made the combination the right choice.
“We were impressed with the modular nature of the SG
model vibrator giving us the ability to install sheet, tube,
timber and h-piles all with the one machine” said Aaron
Brimfield, Director of BridgePro.
BridgePro director commented they have had a lot of
experience with excavator mounted hammers and find
the functionality, simplicity and relative lightweight nature
of the IH-25D to be of significant advantage over
alternatives. It seamlessly integrates with the Movax
computer and provides the operator essential feedback
on the impact energy being applied.
For bridge and other structural foundations, the ability
to drive the pile into harder layers and ‘hit’ the pile to
demonstrate load capacity is essential. Once the pile is
stood and vibrated to refusal, they are able to attach
the impact hammer, and continue to drive the pile to
the required structural capacity.

Sheet pile cofferdams in Periya river in Kerala
Marymatha Construction company has secured a job for
construction of regulator-cum-bridge on Periyar river in
Indian state of Kerala. During high tide the water level
in sea rises and because of this the sea water starts
flowing back into river. New structure will permit control
over the water flow to the river. This project is going to
be helpful in solving some environmental and potable
water issues and scarcity of water for agriculture in
places adjacent to the bridge.
Contractor has to construct a two-lane bridge of 7.50
metre each side and a regulator at a length of 180 metres
across the river. The project includes three sheet
pile cofferdams in stages of 60 m each for dewatering
and construction.
Kerala based Marymatha purchased a Movax SP-50F
Side-Grip vibro for constructing the cofferdams. Sheet
piles of 8 to 12 M length are driven with the Side-Grip
sheet piler on JCB 210 excavator mounted on a barge
to allow operation across the river.
The works are likely to be completed in two years.

Poland´s first SG-60 series Movax pile driver was delivered
to Bialystok based company called Hydrobud. It
has been first put into work at bridge renovation site.
Renovation of the bridge over Krzywe Lake in Suwalki
demanded 16 number of tubular steel piles with end
caps driven 24 metres into the lake bed. The piles were
reinforced with concrete to create solid and long lasting
base for the renewed bridge.

Sheet piles for fuel tank installation
Installation of a new fuel tank at a petrol station near
Gothenburg city required sheet piled cofferdam. The
sheet piles were driven to bed rock, so the length of
the piles varied. Work was carried out with Movax
Side-Grip sheet piler fitted on to Volvo 240 excavator
that is also equipped with a Power Pack. Sheet piling
contractor in this construction project was Trailer Bengt.

Library building in Gothenburg city centre was enlarged
In 2012. At the construction site sheet piled retaining
wall was made with 150 number of sheets of which
most of were taken away as the building proceeded.
Small portion of the sheet piles were left as supportive
structure in the middle of the construction site. Main
contractor for the project was Aarsleff AB . Sheet piling
work was completed by Niklas Sivenmark company
with Movax SP70 F4 on Hitachi 350, length of the
piles were 8-10 metres. Pre-cast concrete piles that
formed actual foundation for the building were driven
by Junttan hammer.
bc India 2013 in Mumbai
Movax had own stand at bc India 2013 exhibition together
with Indian Movax distributor Worldcon Technologies
(Mr. Ashutos Dhar) from 5th to 8th of February in
Mumbai. Mr. Matti Mustonen and Mr. Mikko Vinkki were
representing Movax Ltd at the expo.
Bauma 2013
Bauma 2013 will soon be at hand. From 15th to 21st of April in Munich all
key persons of Movax will host stand N623/12 at open air area F6. Demos
are performed with Movax SG-60V, Movax Mini Leader Rig MLR-15 and Movax
Impact Hammer IH-25d.
