POTTED SPORTS -The Year the World did not End

Potted Sports 2012 went down with a bang! In true Parktown spirit, the Grade 11s saved the
world from certain destruction in the absolutely hilarious play which was performed on stage in
front of a captive audience. The much advertised t-shirt was then revealed to the school. After
days of painting the hall was a masterpiece and truly captured the theme, whilst the stalls were
attractively decorated. There was delicious food on sale and much fun was had by all. From
the giant "YOLO" slide to good old boerewors rolls, the school was treated to a whirlwind of fun
and festivities.
Many thanks to the learners who made the day a success by spending their money for charity.
Thank you to the Grade 11s who put hours of effort into the success of the day and for their
unwavering determination and perseverance. Thank you to the teachers, parents/guardians,
staff, ground staff and all the sponsors for their support and assistance. Lastly, thank you to
Mrs Law, Miss Hulley and Mrs Davidson.
OLD GIRLS’ LUNCHEON
Another very successful Alumnae Lunch was held on Saturday.
Old Girls ranging from the Matric Year of 1936 and 1939 right up
to 2011 attended as well as some much loved teachers from
years gone by. The lunch had a spring theme, which went down
very well. The Harmony girls and Mrs Erasmus entertained us
and brought tears to some of the ladies’ eyes. It was pleasing to
have some RCL representatives and PA mothers in attendance.
This gave the ladies an opportunity to ask questions and have
guided tours of the school. Thank you to Mrs Hulley (Old Girls’
Association Chairperson), Mrs Eastman, Miss Hulley, Miss
Eastman and Mrs Metcalfe for all their assistance.
STAFF NEWS
FAREWELL AND WELCOME
We said a sad farewell to Ms Boshoff and Mr Steenekamp on 31 August.
We say a big Parktown welcome to Mr Sithole (Technology) and Mrs Murphy (Consumer
Studies). We wish them both a long and happy stay.
NATIONAL STATE ALL GIRLS’ SPORT AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Parktown High School for Girls has been given the privilege of hosting the fourteenth annual
All Girls’ Festival as part of the school’s 90 th birthday celebrations in 2013. The Festival will take place
from 25 – 29 April 2013 and will involve the whole school community in some way or another. We will be
hosting approximately 1200 learners and staff, including the principals, from about 22 girls’ schools
across the country, in various sport and cultural activities. Although the participants pay a tournament
fee, the cost of hosting a tournament such as this is high and we will need sponsorships and donations
in order to ensure that we break-even. We have to provide meals, transport, t-shirts, goodie bags and a
photograph for every staff member and player. In addition we have to have an ambulance and first aid,
as well as a tuck-shop, food, tea and coffee at every venue. We also need to provide the balls, umpires,
etc for the sporting activities and the adjudicators for the cultural activities.
This is a request to any parents /guardians who could assist with company sponsorships. Obviously a
cash sponsorship would be ideal as we can then allocate the money to where it is most needed, but we
would also be grateful for any goodie bag items, first aid items, meals, tea, coffee and eats for the
venues, boerewors and rolls to sell at the venues, combis which could be used to help with transport,
etc. In return for any sponsorship we would be able to include company logos in the programme as well
as display branding at the venues.
If there are any parents/guardians who are willing to get involved with sponsorship, please contact Mrs
Sales on sales@parktowngirls.co.za for more details and to get an official sponsorship letter.

including the selling price per Item and portion sizes
5. Other items, in addition to meals that you plan to sell
The deadline for submission of tenders is 28 September 2012 at 12:00 at Reception. Any
submission after this deadline will be disqualified from the process.
Shortlisted applicants may be required to submit samples of the food and permit a visit to an
outlet where the applicant currently operates. The Tuck Shop facility may be viewed by
appointment. The commencement date for occupation will be January 2013. The successful
tender will be announced not later than 31 October 2012.
