SUBESCHAR ANTIBIOTICS:<br />

This process has limited value. Wounds that are<br />

superficial and <strong>in</strong>volve less than 10% of the total body<br />

surface area are eligible for treatment by this method.<br />

The antibiotics used by this route are semisynthetic<br />

penicill<strong>in</strong>s and gentamyc<strong>in</strong>. A solution of 10 gm of<br />

antibiotic <strong>in</strong> 150 ml of sal<strong>in</strong>e is <strong>in</strong>jected twice a day <strong>in</strong><br />

subcutaneous tissue beneath each <strong>in</strong>fected area us<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

No.20 sp<strong>in</strong>al puncture needle to keep the number of<br />

<strong>in</strong>jection site to a m<strong>in</strong>imum.<br />

The effectiveness of bacterial control is modified by<br />

serial full thickness wound biopsies taken from<br />

representative sites at two-day <strong>in</strong>tervals .
