SILVER NITRATE:<br />

Moyer <strong>in</strong>troduced it <strong>in</strong> 1965. He showed that <strong>in</strong> 0.05%<br />

concentration, silver nitrate does not <strong>in</strong>jure<br />

regenerat<strong>in</strong>g epithelium <strong>in</strong> the burn wound and is<br />

effectively bacteriostaticaga<strong>in</strong>st staphylococcus,<br />

aureus, E.coliand Pseudomonas aerug<strong>in</strong>osa.<br />

The usual method of application of silver nitrate<br />

dress<strong>in</strong>gs is to use thick layers of gauze saturated with<br />

the solution. The dress<strong>in</strong>gs are wetted at 2-hour<br />

<strong>in</strong>tervals and changed twice a day.<br />
