ADEQUATE NUTRITION
A non-specific aid to the depressed host defense
appears to be adequate nutrition. Researchers
have found reversal of anergy to common
antigens when the burn patient remains in
positive nitrogen balance. An adequate amount
seems to be 25 kcal per kg of body weight plus 40
kcal per percentage body surface area of the burn
for adult patient. This frequently must be
delivered by continuous pump tube feedings.
