ADEQUATE NUTRITION<br />

A non-specific aid to the depressed host defense<br />

appears to be adequate nutrition. Researchers<br />

have found reversal of anergy to common<br />

antigens when the burn patient rema<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong><br />

positive nitrogen balance. An adequate amount<br />

seems to be 25 kcal per kg of body weight plus 40<br />

kcal per percentage body surface area of the burn<br />

for adult patient. This frequently must be<br />

delivered by cont<strong>in</strong>uous pump tube feed<strong>in</strong>gs.
