2009, DePaul recycled some 128.8 tons
of cardboard and 148.8 tons of white,
recyclable paper.

Recycling is Hard Work

SSM St. Joseph Hospital West,
Lake Saint Louis, Mo.
Starting in January 2009, the ED staff, along
with admitting and environmental services
staff that worked in the ED, began collecting
used items they could recycle into Christmas
decorations at the hospital. The project was
led by nurses Alice Scarry and Linda Hathaway.
Some of the recycling ideas:
• Wreaths made from shredded IV bags and
other plastic packaging
• Snowflakes made from coffee filters
• Garland made from foam lab tube trays, painted red and green
• Window decorations made from plastic coverings peeled off
EKG electrodes
• Wreaths and other decorations
made from IV parts
• Silver centerpieces made
from empty coffee creamer
containers and flowers
