How to Check blood sugar
1. Wash hands – make sure they are clean and dry. Anything on hands (dirt, wet alcohol,
etc) will make the meter read incorrectly.
2. Put test strip in key side down (the black and white part that looks like piano keys)
See the number 25, wait until the meter reads “test - apply blood.”
Compress her poker (like a pen) until you hear it click and can see yellow in the window.

Gently hold her finger to the small hole and press the yellow button.
Poke her finger and get a pinhead size drop on finger. If it’s not coming out, squeeze gently
from the bottom.
Bring meter to finger to suck up the blood.

Wait for the meter to countdown to get the result.
If she is in range (100-200), do nothing. (unless she is saying she feels low, is acting low,
or the Dexcom is alarming… her blood sugar may be dropping quickly, so just be on the
lookout and check again in 20 minutes or so)
If she is below 100 do the following
80-100 She will need a carb snack with insulin.
Below 80 give a juice box OR two marshmallows immediately
