Class Notes 1980s Wendi Hunter Mangiantini (SHPʻ80) is living in Atherton and married Mike Mangiantini in July. The reception was held at the home of her sister, Elizabeth Hunter Kerrigan (SJSHʻ78, SHPʻ82). Also in attendance were Aida Jones (SHPʻ80), Ann McGraw Morrical (SHPʻ81), and her sisters Julene Hunter (SHPʻ78), Mary Hunter Leman (SJSHʻ83), and her brother John Hunter (SJSHʻ80). Michelle Foster (SHPʻ80, SJSHʻ76) is living in the Los Angeles area. Kelly Stokes Allegretti (SHPʻ82) attended Santa Clara University and graduated in accounting. While in college she met her husband, whom she married in 1987. For several years she worked for Arthur Young, a “big 8” accounting firm. Now she is CFO of Allegretti and Company, her family-owned business. She and Joe have three children: Adriana (15), Anthony (13), and Melanie (11). They live in the Los Angeles area. Clare Tuma (SJSHʻ82) is currently working as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Menlo Park. She graduated from Cornell University with a BA in History and Government, and then received an MBA at NYU in Finance and Accounting. Sue Chang (SHPʻ85) has recently moved back to the Bay Area from Seoul, where she worked as the bureau chief for Dow Jones Newswires. She is at UC Berkeleyʼs Graduate School of Journalism as a visiting scholar. She is married with a 12-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. 1990s Erin Rosenburg Gillette (SHPʻ90) and her husband Kevin welcomed their first child, Paedrin Makena Gillette on December 23, 2004. Thank Nguyen (SJSHʻ87, SHPʻ91) is living in Minneapolis and has just completed his General Surgery residency. He will remain in Minnesota while he trains for an additional two years in Transplant Surgery at the University of Minnesota. David McMillan (SHPʻ91) is working at Stanford as a computer administrator for the Education for the Gifted Youth program. He has worked there for almost 10 years. He does all of his travel on his recumbent bike. In his spare time David works for several volunteer organizations including CLASSMATES Celeste Smith (SHP‘67), Mary Keith Roberts (SHP‘67), Chris Lussier Dyer (SHE‘63, SHP‘67), and Gail Hughmanick Alberti (SHE‘62) get together “Friends of the Ventana Wilderness” where he is known for his trail breaking work. Tom Schubin (SHPʻ94) is living in Rancho Cordova with his wife Cassie. He is currently working as a private investigator for a national agency that combates compensation and disability fraud. He would love to hear from any of his classmates. Melissa Prichard (SHP‘66) Melissa was recently named Director of Creative Partnerships at the Daywalka Foundation, an organization dedicated to stopping human trafficking in Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. Melissa has taken on this volunteer position in addition to her other responsibilities, including teaching full-time at ASU, mentoring graduate students, co-judging the PEN/Faulkner Award, writing a biography of philanthropist Virginia G. Piper, and writing short stories. “Within Daywalka, I work on the Kalam project, where we teach poetry writing workshops to children in the brothel districts,” said Melissa. “My job is to create partnerships with artistic and creative organizations that can help us with this work. I intend also to travel as a spokesperson for Daywalka and to make a documentary film or films about Kalam’s evolving work with children born into brothels, and the very young women who are illegally trafficked and sold into sexual enslavement.” In January, Melissa took her first outreach trip, traveling to Nepal and India with a small delegation of Daywalka donors and board members. “Human trafficking is a global epidemic, third only in illegal trade after drugs and weapons,” said Melissa. “Although Daywalka currently works in Nepal and India, the Foundation intends to expand into Mexico, South America, Europe, Africa, and North America.” And how does Melissa find the time and energy for all this work “My energy comes from my passion for this issue,” said Melissa. “If you are passionate about the things you choose to do in life, you may be a bit tired and overwhelmed at times, but you are always engaged, aware, and alive in the highest sense.” Photos courtesy of Brandon Sullivan (left) and Zuzana Sadkova (right) 28 Winter 2006
#3 Jen OʼNeal (SHPʻ97) lives in San Francisco #2 and works in marketing for StubHub.com. Elaine Maneatis (SHPʻ97) attended UCSD and graduated in History in ʻ01. She completed her teaching credential at Notre Dame and is teaching grade school in Los Altos. She was married in the summer of 2004. #1 Chris OʼNeal (SHPʻ98) completed her Masters of Arts in Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky. During my daughter’s high school years, I have come to see how important it is to have someone who believes in you— someone in addition to your parents. Donna Gilboa was that person for me. She believed in my abilities and intellect. She challenged and encouraged me. She gave me a sense of confi dence in myself. She helped shape me into who I am today.
