Training Managers Introduction / News
Ian Lewis – Training & Development Manager
Welcome to the new look Training Prospectus for Q3 /Q4 but before you go any further let me
introduce myself and the team to you :
I left the RAF with over 25 years of experience in Training & Development and over the last 4 years have
been working in the aerospace industry as a curriculum designer/writer and trainer . Last year I was
lucky enough to work with a small team of designers and trainers on the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games. I designed and oversaw a number of training courses in the security arena covering
all aspects of security training, leadership skills and senior management training. I was also involved in
coaching and mentoring other trainers which cumulated in the delivery of training to over 20,000 G4S
security staff for the Games.
I joined the Trend team at the beginning of the year with a key objective to further develop the
already successful training program and enhance the delivery system, not only in the UK but across all
of our international regions. Since my arrival my main focus has been around the current courses that
we deliver and making minor improvements to them, paving the way for future re-development of all
courses and the way in which Trend deliver them through a blended learning system.
You will notice from the new look of the prospectus, that the courses are now laid out in date order
and not by centre. I am hoping that you will find this easier to plan for your training requirements.
Both our regional centres can now deliver the IQeco course and hopefully, by the end of the year, will
be delivering the TONN 3 day and Update courses. This will be followed by a roll out of other courses
during 2014.
I look forward to meeting you over the coming months and as always your feedback on our courses is
paramount to ensuring that we are meeting your requirements for training.
(Course details can be found below the Trainer Bios)
Tony Casey –
I started working in the controls industry in 1983 as a Field Service engineer for a leading UK
manufacturer.
Having worked within the Partner network, I joined Trend in January 1993 working in both the South
East and South West field service teams before joining the Energy & Support Solutions Team (EASS) in
Horsham. In 1996 I moved over to the training team as the 963 specialist and I developed our first e-
learning courses. In 2009 I was promoted to Training Team Leader.
Toby Lockyer –
Prior to joining Trend in 2006, I worked in various business sectors from Finance & IT to Police
Intelligence.
I joined Trend as a Duty Engineer in the Energy & Support Solutions Team (EASS). In this role I dealt with
sites whose controls varied from very early (IQ70s) to the latest Trend products (Energy Eye, Connect,
IQEye). As well as setting up and monitoring 963 alarms , my role was to analyse strategy design and
fault-find Trend installations. Whilst with the EASS I project-managed a backward engineering task which
required the up-skilling of all the Duty Engineers. During my time on the Training Team I have gained my
Trend Expert certification and became a Tridium AX Certified engineer/technician.
Jenny Coppard –
I moved to England when I was 18 and joined Trend as a Customer Services advisor. This was in 1998.
During this time I enrolled on a 2 year HNC course for Electric & Electronic Engineering on day release.
Whilst on my course I moved to Product Support helping to repair returned PCBs.
Once I gained my HNC, I moved to Tech Support and assisted VARs and Field Support Engineers with their
technical problems either over the phone or, when required, by going on site visits. With my knowledge
and hands-on experience I began to assist the Training department with the delivery of courses,
balancing both roles until June 2013 when I officially joined the Training team.
Kev Slocombe
I started work in the controls industry in 1978 as an apprentice panel wireman. In 1984 I had progressed
to commissioning of control systems and I started to work with Trend equipment in 1987. I have also
worked with other control systems including Siemens (Staefa), York and Priva.
I joined Trend direct projects in 2005 and have worked on various complex sites including:
US Navy Sigonella (Sicily), RBS Bishopsgate, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, DSGi (Dixons Group, PC world,
Currys), Procter & Gamble and BT Uplift (BMS Broadband connectivity for telephone exchange plant). I
joined the training team May 2013
Adi Halford – Redditch Training Centre
I started working for Gent as an apprentice back in 1985, once I completed my apprenticeship; I went on to
work within the Fire Detection Industry. During my time with Gent I worked in a variety of roles which
included: Test Technician, Research Engineer, Development Engineer, Product Support Engineer, Tech
Support Engineer eventually becoming a Team Leader and later a Line Manager.
In Jan 2012, I joined Trend as a Technical Trainer and currently deliver Trend training courses at the
Redditch Training Centre.
Pete Crawford – Leeds Training Centre
I qualified in Process Control and Instrumentation, initially working in the automotive industry looking
after the control of chemical processes in various plating/paint lines. From there I moved into the
pharmaceutical/chemical industry working for a company providing demineralised water and ultrapure
water and later on large Combined Heat and Power projects. My next position was at a plant producing
industrial herbicides, initially looking after the control/instrumentation and then subsequently managing
the filling plant before becoming the site engineering supervisor.
In 2004 I joined Trend as a Field Service Engineer in the North East region. In 2010 I became the Trend
Energy Engineer for the North East before moving into my current role as a trainer in 2012.
