National Security, Intelligence and Emergency Disaster Management.
.
ONLINE DEGREE PROGRAMS
At AMU, you can progress through your degree path faster. First, courses start monthly, because we know
your personal commitments don’t always align with a traditional semester schedule. Second, we offer 8 and
16-week sessions for many classes, so you have the option to take more intense, 8-week courses when your
schedule allows.
AFFORDABILITY
Despite significant tuition rate hikes commonly found throughout the United States, AMU has a modest tuition
level for our undergraduate and graduate courses. AMU has also established a book grant so that
undergraduate students do not have to purchase their own books or pay for shipping costs, regardless of
where they are located. This represents a huge savings for our students. The grant is available to all AMU
undergraduate students throughout their degree program, providing the student maintains a 2.0 grade point
average.
AMU offers over 100 degree programs and certificates. The following courses are just a few of the degree
programs that maybe of interest to anyone in the public safety profession.
Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems provides a liberal arts education while
emphasizing preparation for either graduate school or a rewarding career. Students are provided a
rigorous theoretical background coupled with practical and essential skills.
Master of Business Administration
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) offers a balance of theory and practice. The mission of the
MBA program is to prepare working adults in the early stages of their careers in small or mid-sized
organizations with the knowledge, skills, and personal characteristics that will enhance performance in
their present occupation, and prepare them for advancement to upper-level management in the future.
The MBA program enhances career opportunities in the management of business firms or other formally
organized enterprises.
Master of Science In Criminal Justice
The Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) degree is designed primarily for practitioners in the field
of criminal justice interested in developing and/or enhancing administrative skills. The program is also
designed to meet the analytical and theoretical needs of students who will continue with doctoral or law
studies. The degree emphasizes four foundational areas; trends in criminal justice, policy development
and analysis, research design and ethics in criminal justice.
Master of Arts in Military Studies
The Master of Arts in Military Studies (MAMS) at Columbia College is a graduate degree program that
provides a liberal arts education with a practical flair. It emphasizes the study of military affairs from the
perspectives of traditional disciplines such as history, philosophy, and political science. It accentuates
instruction on military leadership and biography, military organizations and civilian relations,
peacekeeping, geopolitics, historiography, and applicable methodologies of the liberal arts. The Military
Studies courses constitute a set of learning experiences that best suit the professional aspirations and
academic interests of the individual. They are designed primarily to facilitate career advancement for
personnel in the U.S. armed services. The learning process culminates with the completion of a thesis in an
area of concentration approved in consultation with a faculty board. The breadth in the disciplinary
coverage ensures that prospective graduate students will study the broad scope of military affairs.
Master of Arts in Teaching
Columbia College believes that truly effective teaching must be modeled, not just taught. Therefore
faculty are encouraged to engage students in active learning, research in field situations, problem solving,
interactive dialogue and questioning, and constant exploration of what is and what could be. Students are
supported in their efforts: to identify and evaluate relevant issues as they relate to various aspects of
teaching and learning; to engage in critical and creative thinking with colleagues, peers and professors; to
develop as whole persons, valuing individualism, uniqueness and diversity of others; to consistently use
reflection and research as the foundation for decision making; and, to value and promote professionalism
and a commitment to learning which is never ending.
