Hot off the press, the launch of the new
issue of Block, edited by Rob Wilson,
which is focused on the sometimes glossy,
sometimes dirty word and world of
commerce and architecture, looking at
high streets, high finance, murky money,
and retail – from the selling spaces of
art to the shop floor – and how architects
seek to balance the needs of art and
money in their own practice. Accompanied
by drinks.

Il Girasole: A House Near Verona,
1995. A film by Christoph Schaub and
Marcel Meili. With contributions by
Sochitl Forster, Katja Lässer, Marcel
Meili and Christoph Schaub, 17 min.
This award-winning short film follows
a day in the life of ‘Il Girasole’, or ‘The
Sunflower’, the rotating modernist
house built in 1935 into a hillside of the
Po Valley in northern Italy. The house,
designed by architects Angelo Invernizzi
and Ettore Fagiuoli, has a motor that
turns it 360 degrees on its own axis, following
the course of the sun. This atmospheric
film brings to life the imaginative
and poetic vision of living in an avantgarde
dream – a theme more recently
picked up in ‘Koolhaas HouseLife’.
