University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.S. in Applied 

Mathematics. 

Mr. Jaffary understands that every child learns in his/her own

no matter what discipline. He incorporates many of his own 

interests in music, art, computers and business into lesson 

plans that explain how science and math are used every

Highlights 

It has been a very good year for BRPD students. We had two students occupy 

the top two spots on the boys frosh/soph HSHS team. Number one player, 

long time student, Roshen K, was 16-2, captain, conference winner, and 

MVP of his team. His counterpart, Theja K, was the number two man and 

performed admirably. He was 6-1 in conference play. 

Ashish M, a four year player for HSHS, finished 19-3 despite playing only 

seasonally this year. Ashish was voted most improved player on varsity. 

Karan V was also on the HSHS team and won a sportsmanship award. 

We gave a full summer scholarship to a disadvantaged youth trying for a 

spot on her tennis team. 

Sadly, we say goodbye to Jay S, off to college, after a 17 year relationship 

with the family. Jay played 4 years at LTHS.

We have worked with students representing

Central, Lyons Township and others. We have 

had students who were national champs, state 

qualifiers, Conference champs/finalists, MVPs 

and MIPs. High school players should consult

Court Usage: Burr Ridge Park District has six 

tennis courts: two at Stevens Park, two lighted 

courts at Woods Pool, and two lighted courts at 

Harvester Park. Courts are available on the hour 

and ½ hour when demand arises. Rules are posted 

on-site. Please check the map on the back 

page of the brochure for addresses and a map to 

all court locations. 

Make-Up Lessons: Classes of a half hour or 

more will be rescheduled when inclement 

weather arises if possible depending on seasonal

Dog Obedience Training

Puppies/dogs 10 weeks and up can benefit from this basic 

training course. Classes teach dog and owner the basics of 

control through positive reinforcement. Some control exercises 

covered are: heel (controlled walk), stay, come, down, 

off leash walking. Topics discussed include chewing, barking, 

jumping, biting and housebreaking. Advanced control 

exercises will be covered with those dogs having some training 

experience. All dogs must be current on shots. First class 

is without your dog. Bring a collar, leash, treats and a plastic 

bag. Extremely aggressive dogs may be asked to leave the

Gateway Special Recreation Association provides recreation 

services throughout the year to children, teens, and 

adults with disabilities. 

Gateway S.R.A. was formed through an intergovernmental 

agreement and is an extension of the Park Districts of Burr 

Ridge, Oak Brook, Elmhurst, Pleasant Dale, Westchester, and 

York Center, the City of Countryside, and the Villages of 

Hinsdale and Willowbrook. 

Program Services 

Gateway S.R.A. contracts the professional services of Ray 

Graham Association for People with Disabilities to provide 

recreation services. Programs are conducted at a variety of 

locations throughout the seven communities, and at the Anna 

Emery Hanson Center in Burr Ridge. Program brochures are 

available at the Hanson Center and the Community Center. 

We realize that each participant has unique abilities and 

talents. Programs stress teamwork, positive social interactions 

and skill building. 

All programs are structured for persons with disabilities. 

The RGA/Gateway motto is "Everyone is a Winner." Each person 

is provided the individual attention and support to succeed 

at his or her own pace. Sportsmanship is stressed, not 

competition. Gateway S.R.A. and the Ray Graham Association 

promotes and encourages positive interaction between persons 

with and without disabilities. Persons with disabilities can 

participate in their local park district programs with the needed 

support service. 

Certain Gateway programs are open to individuals who do not 

have disabilities. We also encourage participants to explore 

other opportunities within the Park District.

The Anna Emery Hanson Center is located on 59th Street

Volunteer Opportunities 

Opportunities are available 6 days a week, afternoon and 

evening hours. Assist with a variety of programs. Gateway SRA 

provides weekly recreational programs, Special Olympic sport 

programs, special events, and dances. Programs vary from season

Harvester Park Wetland and Native 

Enhancement Update 

The Park District still awaits final DuPage County permit 

approval, which is anticipated shortly. At that time, work will 

commence on improvements located within the delineated wetland 

and buffer, including 

hard surface paths, 

fishing deck, foot and 

floating bridges/docks, 

shoreline rocky outcroppings, 

wetland mitigation, 

execution of planting/ 

eradication plans, 

and construction of 

interpretive elements. 

The District expects 

work to continue on in 

phases until final completion 

in Fall 2010.

At one time, the Harvester Park site was owned by 

International Harvester, and was part of a campus and facility 

that developed and tested agricultural and construction 

machinery and innovations. The company today is known 

as Case New Holland (CNH), and its Burr Ridge facility, 

located on the northern border of Harvester Park, serves as 

its North American 

headquarters. 

CNH has been a good 

neighbor and good 

friend of the Park 

District. The company 

has regularly participated 

in our Harvest 

Fest event and provides 

the equipment 

and labor for hay wagon rides. 

Additionally, CNH has contributed $40,000 and invaluable 

staff time to develop and build an interactive and educational 

display area celebrating the global impact of CNH 

today and over history. This discovery area will be located 

at the new wetland shelter. 

The Park District appreciates the support of CNH and wishes 

to acknowledge their commitment to our community 

and residents. 

More Information on Educational and Interpretive Improvements 

At the core of the program is the development of “Discovery Centers”, interactive stations which will focus on a 

variety of food chains and ecosystems found within the wetland and prairie. Discovery Centers will contain both 

pictorial/informational presentation and hands-on, manipulative experience for a number of related topics. Local 

school educators are participating in topic development to ensure compatibility with school curriculum and future 

school educational outings to the site. The program will offer discovery opportunities for all ages despite its 6-12 

years primary target.

Registration Procedures 

1. Choose the program(s) you wish to register for and fill 

out the registration form completely, making sure you indicate 

the proper code numbers. 

2. Adults must sign the "Release/Hold Harmless and 

Emergency Treatment Form" for their own programs as well 

as for their children under 18 years of age. Registration 

forms without proper signatures cannot be processed. 

3. Payment with cash, credit card or check (a $25 fee will 

be charged for any returned checks) is acceptable. Make 

your check payable to Burr Ridge Park District 

and drop off at or mail to: Burr Ridge Park District,

Proof of Residency 

Policies set forth by Burr Ridge Park District Board of 

Commissioners define a resident as anyone living within the 

geographic boundaries of the Burr Ridge Park District and 

who pays property taxes to the district. 

Friendly Refund Policy 

Burr Ridge Park District strives to ensure participants' quality 

leisure experiences. Your satisfaction is our number one priority 

and we would greatly appreciate hearing from you if 

your programming experience does not meet your expectations. 

In the event that your expectations are not met and we 

are not able to resolve the issues to your satisfaction, the following 

steps will be implemented to issue a refund to you. 

Refund Steps 

At any time up until the mid-way point of a program, you 

will receive a prorated refund for the number of days not 

attended after contact. 

A $3.00 service charge will be instituted for all refunds. 

Refunds will not be granted after the mid-way point of 

the program or after a single meeting (i.e. special event) 

program is completed. 

Medical situations may be granted as an exception to this 

policy. If at any point in time you are unable to continue in 

a program due to a medical situation, you will receive a prorated 

refund if you follow the above steps and include a 

doctor's note identifying the medical condition and the date 

the condition occurred. 

Due to the nature of the program, certain activities may be 

exempt from this refund policy. Such exemptions will be 

noted in that particular program's description in the 

brochure. 

Participants who withdraw from a trip may receive a refund 

or a partial refund. This determination will be made based 

upon the unique arrangements for that particular trip. Also, 

our ability to supply a replacement may have an impact on 

the final refund decision. Make contact with the trip planner 

to discuss particular arrangements.

accordance with our usage policy, which is available at the 

Burr Ridge Community Center. 

Harvester Park – Rental information pamphlets are available 

at the BRCC. The pamphlet contains fee structures, amenity 

listings, and rental options. Due to the high volume of activity 

during the early summer, rental availability for the picnic shelter 

will commence August 1. Pick up a pamphlet at BRCC or 

contact the Park District to have it mailed or faxed to you. It is 

the intent of Burr Ridge Park District to make specified equipment 

and facilities available for use by the community on a 

fair and equitable basis. Availability will be determined after

On occasion, the park district staff or local newspaper photographers may take pictures of participants in 

our programs, classes, or events. Please be aware that these pictures are only for Park District use, most 

likely in future catalogues, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, website or for publication in a local newspaper. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 

The Burr Ridge Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe 

manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Burr Ridge Park District continually strives 

to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed 

to protect the participants' safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for 

this program/activity must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in 

recreational activities/programs. 

You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled 

for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is 

pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness or impairment, to consult a physician before 

undertaking any physical activity. 

WARNING OF RISK 

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional 

resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning 

and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. 

Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. 

Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries 

due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, 

unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, 

instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to outdoor and indoor recreational activities/programs 

exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Burr Ridge Park 

District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK 

Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in this program/activity, 

you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, 

damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and 

all activities connected with and associated with this program/activity (including transportation 

services/vehicle operation, when provided). 

I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in this program/activity, 

and I voluntarily agree to assume the risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless 

of severity, that my child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive 

and relinquish all claims I or my child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of 

participating in this program/activity against the Burr Ridge Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers 

and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as Burr Ridge Park District). 

I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the Burr Ridge Park District from any and all claims for 

injuries, damages, or loss that minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me or my child/ward 

and arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with this program/activity. 

I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption 

of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or via fax, your online or facsimile signature 

shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as an original form signature.

Rental Information 

With capacity for groups up to 184 people, 

the Burr Ridge Community Center is 

an ideal location for your next event. Our 

program space is perfect for holiday gatherings, 

baby showers, birthday parties, 

family reunions, community group meetings, 

non-profit groups, and more. The 

Burr Ridge Community Center opened on 

September 29, 2005. The building features 

a beautiful entrance lobby, four main 

program rooms, a large kitchen used for 

cooking programs, preschool, and Park 

District administration offices. Contact the 

Park District to receive a pamphlet with 

complete pricing details.
