Data stored on <strong>Campbell</strong> <strong>Scientific</strong> mass storage devices are retrieved through a<br />

telecommunication link to the <strong>CR1000</strong> or by removing the device, connecting it to<br />

a PC, and copying / moving files using Windows Explorer.<br />

Caution When installing a CF (p. 450) card module, first turn off the <strong>CR1000</strong><br />

power.<br />

Before removing a card module from the datalogger, disable the card by pressing<br />

the "removal button" (NOT the eject button), wait for the green LED, and then<br />

turn <strong>CR1000</strong> power off.<br />

Removing a card or card module from the <strong>CR1000</strong> while the CF card is active can<br />

cause data corruption and can damage the card.<br />

Sending a program to the <strong>CR1000</strong> may erase all data. To prevent losing data,<br />

always collect data before sending a program to the datalogger.<br />

The <strong>CR1000</strong> manages data on a CF card as final storage table data. It accesses<br />

the card as needed to fill data collection requests initiated with the Collect<br />

command (see the Collect section ). If care is taken, binary data from the card can<br />

be collected using the File Control Retrieve (p. 454) command. Before collecting<br />

data this way, stop the <strong>CR1000</strong> program to ensure data are not written to the card<br />

while data are retrieved; otherwise, data corruption will result.<br />

Data stored on CF cards are retrieved through a telecommunication link to the<br />

<strong>CR1000</strong> or by removing the card, carrying it to a computer, and retrieving the<br />

data via a third-party CF adapter. Retrieving data, especially large files, is much<br />

faster through a CF adapter than telecommunications with the <strong>CR1000</strong>.<br />

The format of data files collected via a CF adapter is different than the standard<br />

<strong>Campbell</strong> <strong>Scientific</strong> data file formats (see Data File Format Examples (p. 336) ).<br />

Data files read from the card via a CF adapter can be converted to a <strong>Campbell</strong><br />

<strong>Scientific</strong> format using CardConvert software (see CardConvert (p. 449) ).<br />

For more information on use of CF cards, see the CRD: Drive (p. 334) section.<br />

Routine <strong>CR1000</strong> operations store data in binary data tables. However, when the<br />

TableFile() instruction is used, data are also stored in one of several formats in<br />

discrete text files in internal or external memory. See Data Storage (p. 332) for<br />

more information on the use of the TableFile() instruction.<br />

<strong>CR1000</strong> data stored on a PC via support software is formatted as either ASCII or<br />

Binary depending on the file type selected in the support software. Consult the<br />

software manual for details on available data-file formats.<br />
