peripheral<br />

Any device designed for use with, and requiring, the <strong>CR1000</strong> (or another<br />

<strong>Campbell</strong> <strong>Scientific</strong> datalogger) to operate.<br />

Ping<br />

A software utility that attempts to contact another specific device in a<br />

network.<br />

Poisson Ratio<br />

A ratio used in strain measurements equal to transverse strain divided<br />

by extension strain. v = ‐(ε trans / ε axial ).<br />

precision<br />

A measure of the repeatability of a measurement. Also see the appendix<br />

Accuracy, Precision, and Resolution (p. 471).<br />

PreserveVariables<br />

PreserveVariables instruction protects Public variables from being<br />

erased when a program is recompiled.<br />

print device<br />

Any device capable of receiving output over pin 6 (the PE line) in a<br />

receive‐only mode. Printers, "dumb" terminals, and computers in a<br />

terminal mode fall in this category.<br />

processing instructions<br />

These instructions allow the user to further process input data values<br />

and return the result to a variable where it can be accessed for output<br />

processing. Arithmetic and transcendental functions are included in<br />

these instructions.<br />

program control instructions<br />

Used to modify the execution sequence of instructions contained in<br />

program tables; also used to set or clear flags.<br />
