10. Exhibitors must provide their own leash, water<br />

dish, kennel and any equipment needed.<br />

11. 4-H members must progress to a higher level<br />

yearly with the same dog project. Exceptions<br />

to this will be considered and must be<br />

dealt with individually by the 4-H adviser.<br />

12. Dogs participating in the Dog Obedience activities<br />

must either be owned by the exhibitor<br />

or the exhibitor’s immediate family. They must<br />

be in the continual care of the exhibitor for the<br />

duration of the project. The date of ownership<br />

must be no later than June 1, 2013. Proof of<br />

ownership is the burden of the exhibitor and<br />

exhibitor’s family.<br />

a. Immediate family is defined as the exhibitor’s<br />

father, mother, brother, sister, uncle,<br />

aunt, grandfather or grandmother, including<br />

the corresponding step and half relations, or<br />

by a member of the exhibitor’s household.<br />

b. Continual care is defined as the exhibitor<br />

being responsible for and involved in the feeding,<br />

cleaning and caring of the project.<br />

13. All dogs exhibited in the Hardin County Fair<br />

must be at least six months of age by the date<br />

of the show. Proof of age is the burden of the<br />

exhibitor or exhibitor’s immediate family.<br />

Dogs not meeting this age requirement are not<br />

permitted to be shown.<br />

14. During the project year, no one other than<br />

the 4-H or FFA member is permitted to show<br />

the 4-H or FFA project dog at any type of dog<br />

show, including fun matches.<br />

15. 4-H members enrolled in the Dog Guides for<br />

the Blind, Project No. 201 or Self-Determined<br />

Project, taking a Service or Helper Dog are eligible<br />

to show in Assistance Dog Class 17.<br />

16. 4-H members must continually progress to a<br />

higher level of obedience training with the<br />

same dog. Any previous participants in classes<br />

Sub-Novice A, Novice A, Graduate Novice A<br />

and Open A may not enter the same class.<br />

First place winners in classes Sub-Novice B<br />

and Novice B are not permitted to repeat the<br />

same class with the same dog. First place winners<br />

of Graduate Novice B and Open B are<br />

not permitted to repeat the same class with<br />

the same dog. Participants in Graduate Novice<br />

B can show in this class a maximum of two<br />

years with the same dog, unless first place<br />

county fair or state winner.<br />

17. 4-H members showing their dogs at any Licensed<br />

or Member Obedience Trail or at a<br />

Sanctioned Match must show their dogs during<br />

the 4-H project year at the same or higher<br />

level than they are showing. Fun matches do<br />

not apply. Dogs who have completed their<br />

companion dog (CD) title (or UKC, etc. equivalent,)<br />

must show in graduate novice classes.<br />

Dogs who have completed their companion<br />

dog excellent (CDX) title (or UKC, etc. equivalent)<br />

must show in open B or graduate Open A<br />

classes.<br />

18. Junior Fair members must show in the same<br />

class at the Hardin County Fair as they selected<br />

to show in at the Ohio State Fair. No<br />

switching of classes or dropping out of classes<br />

the day of Hardin County Fair show will be allowed.<br />

19. No practicing with dogs in show arena prior<br />

to dog show.<br />

OBEDIENCE CLASSES:<br />

1. Sub Novice A class is for the beginning 4-H<br />

member and beginning dog. Neither exhibitor<br />

nor dog has had any prior experience before<br />

joining 4-H the current year. This means the<br />

exhibitor and/or dog cannot have any kind<br />

of formalized training.<br />

2. Sub Novice B class is for the 4-H member or<br />

dog who has shown in Sub Novice A or has<br />

had show experience at the Sub-Novice level<br />

prior to joining 4-H the current year. 2 year<br />

maximum with the same dog.<br />

3. Novice A class is for 4-H member or dog with<br />

no prior show experience at the Novice level<br />

before joining 4-H the current year. 1 year<br />

maximum.<br />

4. Novice B class is for the 4-H member or dog<br />

who has shown in Novice A or has had show<br />

experience at the Novice level prior to joining<br />

4-H the current year. 2 year maximum with<br />

the same dog.<br />

5. Graduate Novice A class is for the 4-H member<br />

or dog with no prior show experience at<br />

the Graduate Novice level before joining 4-H<br />

the current year. 1 year maximum with the<br />

same dog.<br />

6. Graduate Novice B class is for the 4-H member<br />

or dog who has shown in Graduate Novice<br />

A or has had prior show experience at the<br />

Graduate Novice level. They have also not progressed<br />

to the Open level. 4-H members can<br />

show in Graduate Novice B a maximum of two<br />

years with the same dog. They then must<br />

move to Open A with the same dog. If a 4-H<br />

member is a county fair or state winner in the<br />

Graduate Novice B class the first year, he/she<br />

must move to Open A the next year with the<br />

same dog.<br />

7. Open A class is for the 4-H member or dog<br />

that has had no prior show experience at the<br />

open level before joining 4-H the current year.<br />

1 year maximum.<br />

8. Open B class is for the 4-H member or dog<br />

who has shown in Open A or has had prior<br />

show experience at the Open level. If the 4-H<br />

member has a first place State Winner in this<br />

class they are not permitted to repeat this<br />

class with the same dog. 2 year maximum.<br />

9. Graduate Open A class is for the 4-H member<br />

or dog with no prior experience at the graduate<br />

open level before joining 4-H current year.<br />

1 year maximum with the same dog.<br />

10. Graduate Open B class is for the 4-H member<br />

or dog who has shown in graduate open A<br />

or has had prior experience at graduate open<br />

level of dog obedience.<br />

11. Utility A – In this neither the exhibitor nor<br />

dog has had any prior experience at the Utility<br />

level or a higher level of dog obedience. One<br />

year maximum for each the dog and exhibitor.<br />

12. Utility B – This class is for the exhibitor or<br />

dog that has shown in Utility A or has had prior<br />

experience at the Utility level, or a higher<br />

level of dog obedience. Once a dog has shown<br />

at this level, it cannot show at an lower level of<br />

obedience. This class may be repeated by exhibitor<br />

or dog.<br />
