4-H DOG SHOW<br />

Judging: Grooming & Handling Followed by Obedience,<br />

Saturday, September 7, 9:00 AM in the<br />

shelterhouse.<br />

Premiums:<br />

A Grade - $2.00, B Grade - $2.00; C Grade<br />

$2.00 for each Grooming & Handling class followed<br />

by Obedience. Exhibitor shows dog.<br />

RULES: OBEDIENCE<br />

1. 4-H or FFA members must be enrolled in Obedience<br />

Training-Beginning (Project 206), or<br />

Obedience Training-Advanced (Project 207) to<br />

show in 4-H Dog obedience classes. 4-H members<br />

are encouraged to take Dog Care (Project<br />

200) as a complement to the other 4-H dog<br />

projects. Projects must be taken with a specialty<br />

club or qualified trainer.<br />

2. Exhibitors in respective activities and classes<br />

are expected to perform in those events and<br />

demonstrate those skills which are listed in<br />

the dog project books and on the various 4-H<br />

dog judging score sheets. The score sheets are<br />

found in the back of each project book.<br />

3. The judge may dismiss from the ring any dog<br />

exhibiting unsafe or threatening behavior or<br />

any exhibitor abusing the dog.<br />

4. The show official in charge will have the right<br />

and responsibility to order the removal from<br />

the grounds any dog exhibiting unsafe or<br />

threatening behavior or any exhibitor or any<br />

other person abusing the dogs.<br />

5. Only the exhibitor, dog and show officials will<br />

be permitted in the ring while any class is being<br />

judged.<br />

6. Bait is not permitted in Obedience Classes.<br />

7. Each exhibitor may enter one dog per class.<br />

Any individual dog may be shown in one obedience<br />

class only. Class entered must be according<br />

to the ability of the dog.<br />

8. All dogs participating in the Hardin County<br />

Fair shall be immunized against distemper,<br />

adenovirus (hepatitus), leptospirosis, parainfluenze,<br />

parvovirus and rabies, and shall be<br />

currently licensed in their county of residence.<br />

a. All exhibitors must have certificate of vaccination,<br />

and a license available for examination<br />

when registering at the Dog Show.<br />

b. The required vaccinations must have been given<br />

after Aug. 15, 2012 and before July 30,<br />

2013, by a licensed, accredited veterinarian.<br />

This is different than State Fair dates. Please<br />

try to have shots given which will fall within<br />

dates for both the county fair and State Fair.<br />

c. A certificate of vaccination is required. This<br />

certificate must include the name, breed and<br />

age of the dog. Pet record cards and kennel<br />

records will not be accepted. Be certain the<br />

dates, the required vaccinations, (including<br />

the rabies vaccination,) are listed. Make certain<br />

certificates are signed by the veterinarian.<br />

SAMPLE<br />

The Ohio Department of Agriculture requires<br />

dogs to have current rabies vaccinations. Your<br />

veterinarian must document on this form<br />

whether your dog’s rabies vaccination is current<br />

or one year or three years by filling in the “Date<br />

Expires” blank. Additionally, the Ohio 4-H Dog<br />

program requires that all dogs be vaccinated<br />

yearly for distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis,<br />

Parainfluenze and Parvivirus for exhibition at the<br />

Ohio State Fair Dog Show, unless otherwise noted<br />

below by veterinarian. All vaccinations must<br />

be administered by a licensed, accredited veterinarian.<br />

With the exception of rabies, specific vaccination<br />

requirements may be waved if the veterinarian<br />

d. Upon exhibitor’s arriving at dog show area,<br />

veterinarians will check certificates and dog licenses.<br />

Incomplete information or falsified information<br />

is grounds for dismissal.<br />

9. Females in season will not be exhibited. Each<br />

dog must go through a veterinary check where<br />

all unspayed females will be checked for signs<br />

of heat. Decision of the show veterinarian is<br />

final.<br />
