Marvin was born in Hardin County and has<br />

lived here all of his life.He has been a big supporter<br />

of the fair. He grew up as a young child<br />

looking forward to coming to the fair every year<br />

with his family, his Grandma & his uncle who<br />

loved to watch the horse races. They would<br />

pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the day at the<br />

fair.<br />

Marvin served one term as a director for<br />

Roundhead Township on the Hardin County fairboard<br />

in 1988. He was a member of the Roundhead<br />

Clever Clippers 4-H Club for 8 years and<br />

showed Red Poll cattle every year in the fifties.<br />

His last year he showed 17 head of Red Poll cattle<br />

and won showmanship. He helped start the<br />

Scioto Valley 4-H club and he and his wife of 51<br />

years, Marilyn, were 4-H advisors for several years.<br />

He served on the 4-H Council for one term. He<br />

started a machinery consignment Auction at the<br />

fairgrounds and the next year it became the fairboards<br />

machinery consignment sale, which is still<br />

held annually and is a major fund raiser for the<br />

fairboard. Marvin also started the first fitting and<br />

grooming class in the beef department. He also<br />

started the tradition and donated for several<br />

years the champion and reserve champion stall<br />

signs for steers,hogs & lambs which grew every<br />

year with other animals included. He helped establish<br />

the first draft horse show at the fair and<br />

exhibited 4 head of Percheron horses the first<br />

year (1985). He has donated<br />

his time along with all<br />

the other Auctioneers for<br />

the Junior Fair Livestock<br />

Auction at the fair every<br />

year. Marvin introduced<br />

the idea of numbering the<br />

rows of the East parking lot<br />

at the fairgrounds.<br />

Marvin put up the first<br />

911 sign and installed the<br />

majority of them in Hardin<br />

County. He retired from the<br />

Hardin County Engineers<br />

Highway Department. He was also inducted into<br />

the Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2011.<br />

Marvin and Marilyn also have three girls Lori,<br />

Lisa & Julie who were all in 4-H showing cattle<br />

and hogs at the Hardin County fair for several<br />

years and four grandsons, Jacob, Justin, Tyler &<br />

Austin who also showed cattle through 4-H and<br />

FFA. Grandchildren Linley and Gabe also loved<br />

to visit the fair. The Hardin County fair has been<br />

a big influence in the life of Marvin and his family.<br />

He is proud that he has been able to support<br />

the fair over the years. Marvin is deeply honored<br />

that he has been named this year s fair honoree.<br />
