Mick Geer Colin Hood Position: Coach / Support staff Lives: Tunbridge Wells, Kent Club: RTW Monson Position: Coach / Support staff Date of Birth: July 1950 Age: 44 Born: Urmston Manchester Lives: Urmston Manchester Mick coached the British Olympic team from 1980-1988 and was a member of the swimming coaching team at the Sydney Paralympics. He is coach to British Paralympic swimmer, Darren Leach. Colin coaches at the Manchester High Performance Centre and has five of his swimmers on the Paralympic team. He was previously the senior coach at the City of Salford and placed able-bodies swimmers on world and commonwealth teams as well as disability athletes on the Sydney Paralympic team. Colin has been a winner of the BSCTA Coach of the Year award and was inducted into the UK Coaching Hall Of Fame in 2003. He is a serious supporter of Manchester United. Eddie McCluskey Billy Pye www.paralympics.org.uk Position: Coach / Support staff Date of Birth: 29.04.48 Age: 56 Born: Greenock, Scotland Lives: Greenock, Scotland Club: Port Glasgow Otters Position: Coach / Support staff Date of Birth: 27.09.58 Age: 45 Lives: Neath, South Wales A retired telecommunications engineer and current head coach of Port Glasgow Otters, Eddie has worked with British Disability swimming since 1992. Athens will be his fourth Paralympic Games. Billy is British Swimming’s high performance centre coach based at the Wales National Pool in Swansea. A former head coach for Bridgend County Swim Squad, he had coached swimmers to national and international level and has been voted the 2004 BSCTA Coach of the Year. 70
Anthony Stickland Jill Stidever Position: Coach / Support staff Date of Birth: 25.08.59 Age: 45 Born: Wareham, Dorset Lives: Dunblane, Scotland Position: Coach / Support staff Lives: Markfield, Leicestershire Club: Leicester Penguins SC Anthony looks after World Class Performance and Potential swimmers in Scotland, as well has helping to organise some of the swimmers on the Start programme. He coaches two full time World Class athletes and runs squad sessions for Scottish Disability swimmers. In his role as an ASA Club Coach, he worked with Wareham, Poole, Bridgewater and High Wycombe swimming clubs. Following a motorbike accident at the age of 17, Anthony represented Great Britain at the Paralympics in Arnham and New York. Michele Weltman Jill has been involved in swimming for over fifty years from grass roots to international level, and has worked with disability squads for twenty years. She is the coordinator for swimming with Cerebral Palsy Sport and is also an ASA senior tutor. Awarded an MBE for Services to Disabled Sport in the 2000 New Year’s Honours List, Jill is married with three children - one of whom is a Paralympic swimmer - and five grandchildren. She supports Leicester Tigers rugby team. Paul McInneny Position: Coach / Support staff Date of Birth: 25.02.64 Age: 40 Born: Harare, Zimbabwe Lives: Alexandra Park, London Position: Carer / Support staff Lives: Edinburgh Michele was born in Zimbabwe and went on to play hockey for Israel. She was named Hackney and Middlesex Coach of the Year in 1996 and the BSCTA Disability Coach of the Year in 1997, which is the year she became involved with the Paralympic team. This will be Michelle’s second Paralympic Games. Paul graduated in Classics before becoming a care team leader in Edinburgh. He has worked with British Disability Swimming for the last five years and attended the Sydney Paralympics. Paul also does volunteer work with Disability Sport England and is a qualified boccia referee. 71
