FOREWORD
TIM REDDISH - DIRECTOR OF DISABILITY SWIMMING
Welcome to this guide for the Great Britain Swimming Team for the Paralympic Games, Athens 2004.
In Sydney, Great Britain attained third place on the Gold Medal Table behind Canada and Spain. Since 2000,
Great Britain were European Champions in 2001 ahead of rivals Spain and also finished top of the medal table
at the 2002 International Paralympic Committee World Swimming Championships.
The team for Athens contains both first time and experienced Paralympic swimmers and staff, some of whom
are competing in their fifth and sixth Paralympic Games. The experience of these swimmers combined with a
highly skilled team of staff will enable Great Britain to send its best ever prepared swimming team to the Games.
The team is a cohesive unit consisting of 34 swimmers and 16 staff who work together for the benefit of the
swimmers.
The aim for Athens will be for the Great Britain team to win more gold medals than in Sydney with
a smaller team.
