(ii) great plague
is
placed by Aristides (i. p. 504) 'long after'
(xpoVoi 817 varrepov) tills epoch. But the plague was brought
to Rome
'
by the soldiers of L. Verus on their return a.d. 166; and in Asia Minor,
of which Aristides is here speaking,
it had raged much earlier. Thus
Masson's chronology produces a hopeless anachronism.
(iii) Simultaneously with the letter from the princes comes another
from Heliodorus,
