The numbers of verses differ in the diflferent authorities for the text ;
but we are
not concerned here with these differences.
This \\ork is found in the MSS in two forms, the one fuller than the other. De
Boor considers that the shorter form represents the original Nicephorus, and that the
as it was
longer was a recension made soon after his death. It cannot be much later,
translated into Latin by Anastasius about a.d. 870.
The words not contained in the shorter form are here placed in brackets. The
list
of books is one of these later additions.
