RAIL<br />
• The operating division transports bulk and<br />
containerised freight along a 20 500km rail<br />
network, of which 1 500km comprises heavy<br />
haul export lines. The network includes almost<br />
4 000km of branch lines.<br />
• <strong>Transnet</strong> Freight Rail’s main business lines are<br />
the export coal line, the export iron ore<br />
line and the general freight business.<br />
• The network and rail service provide strategic<br />
links between ports and production hubs and<br />
is connected with the railways of the Southern<br />
African Development Community (SADC)<br />
region, thus enabling trade with Africa.<br />
