12. MOTIONS OF WHICH NOTICE HAS BEEN GIVEN
12.1 CASH FOR CONTAINERS SCHEME FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Submission by Cr Bradley
That:-
(i)
(ii)
the Town of Cambridge supports the immediate introduction of a Cash for
Containers Scheme for Western Australia;
Council considers that a Cash for Containers Scheme will have the following
benefits for our Town by:
• Reducing litter
• Increasing the recycling rate
• Providing community benefits, such as a funding source for community
groups, and,
• Making the Polluter Pay: with a Cash for Containers Scheme, the costs are
borne by the producer and direct consumer, rather than the whole community;
(iii)
Council lends it support to the campaign for the introduction of a Container Deposit
Scheme. In order to indicate its position, the Chief Executive Officer is instructed to
write to the following:
• Hon. Dr Elizabeth Constable MLA, Member for Churchlands;
• Hon. Giovanni (John) Mario Castrilli MLA, Minister for Local Government;
• Hon. Colin James Barnett MLA BEc (Hons), MEc, Premier;
• advising them of Councils's support for this proposal.

ADMINISTRATION COMMENT:
Clause 3.13(2)(c) of the Standing Orders provides that the Chief Executive Officer shall,
not less than 24 hours prior to the meeting, send to each Member a report providing
relevant and material facts and circumstances pertaining to the notice of motion on such
matters as policy, budget and law, or for more complex issues, recommending that the
matter be deferred to a later meeting to enable a report to be prepared.
