speakers (retired athletic stars), displays, appearance of sports stars, and a Vespa
scooter display. This event will coincide with the running of Athletics WA's normal Friday
night program of events and;
• A VIP dinner / cocktail party (marquee event) at the community event - hosted by WA
Olympic and Commonwealth Games Council. This event will be a corporate event which
will focus on acknowledging the athletes who have competed in the Commonwealth
Games.
The Town, in partnership with the other stakeholders, is planning to approach Landcorp to
seek sponsorship for the VIP dinner.
POLICY/STATUTORY IMPLICATIONS:
There are no Policy or Statutory Implications related to this report.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
An amount of $25,000 has been included in the 2012/2013 Budget for the event celebrations
provided that dollar for dollar funding can be sourced from other funding opportunities.
The total cost of the event, inclusive of in-kind contributions from Athletics WA and WAOC, is
estimated to be $43,480. Funding of $20,000 has been sourced from the State Government
(DSR and Landcorp). Therefore, a total of $23,480 will be required from the 2012/2013
budget allocation.
STRATEGIC DIRECTION:
The 50 th anniversary of the British Empire and Commonwealth Games event supports a
number of the key priority areas in the Town's 2009-2020 Strategic Plan, including:
• Planning for our Community; and
• Delivering Our Services
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION:
This matter has been assessed under the Community Consultation Policy. In accordance
with the assessment criteria it was rated at Level 1, for which no community consultation is
required.
