COUNCIL MINUTES TUESDAY 28 AUGUST 2012 Response The intent of the agreement with the State Government is that an initial $5m of the revenue coming to the Town from this development will be used to facilitate subsequent stages of Wembley Sports Park development. The balance of funds to be received have not yet been earmarked for any other works but they will be used for management of the Town's assets on behalf of ratepayers. COUNCIL MINUTES TUESDAY 28 AUGUST 2012 Jim Putt, 165 Jersey Street, Wembley Question 1 Why has Council abrogated its responsibility in not developing the Nursery Site land for the benefit of the residents of Wembley and handballed it to Landcorp Response The statement that the Council has abrogated its responsibility is not accepted. If Council was to develop the land, it would have buy the Government's share and fund the development, the cost of which would be $10 to $20 million which would have to be raised through land sales or borrowings. We would have to manage the development which would take up a lot of officer time which may result in other projects being put on hold. By the Government developing the land, they buy the Town's share of the land, and manage the development. In general terms, however, the outcome should be the same. As far as meeting the needs of Wembley residents, the prime objective of the development will be to provide a choice of housing to meet the needs of the community. Question 2 Some time ago, it was acknowledged at a Council meeting by one of the Elected Members present that the traffic on Jersey Street represented a danger to children going downhill to Cambridge Street and agreed that something should be done. Since then, modifications have been undertaken for parking but nothing has been done for the safety of children. Sam Birmingham, President West Coast Sporting Association Re: Item CR12.125 - City Beach Oval Pavilion - Approval to Award Construction Tender RFT01-12 Question Can the Town please provide more detail on what it sees the next steps as being should the proposal be approved tonight in order that I can pass on the information to Committee members and Clubs Response The tender documents included a programme where works commence on 10 September 2012 and due for completion on 15 March 2013. The decisions of Council tonight for a report to be considered may obviously change these dates. This matter will be discussed at tonight's meeting. 4. PETITIONS Nil 5.
