Looking back on the last year, we can safely say that it has been a period of unprecedented growth
at Bisco Canada filled with exciting changes both large and small. We expanded our exclusive
distribution territory for Bisco products to include Ontario and the Maritimes, opened an office in
Quebec to better serve our customers in that province and negotiated exclusive distribution for RTD’s
Double Taper fiber post products, considered by many experts to be the best fiber post available on
the market.
However, we haven’t just grown for the sake of growth. Our growth has been directed by focusing on
the needs of the people we serve. Essentially, it has been a result of our ongoing strategic development
on how we can help you grow while maintaining our level of excellence. Moreover, as a former health
care provider, I am sensitive to the many challenges faced by owner/operators of dental practices. It
was not that long ago that I was involved in marketing my own practice and managing my patients for
practice growth. Although fun and rewarding, it was trying at times. From this perspective, our team
is fully made aware that our processes to supply and support products must have the ability to assist
you in optimizing your practice more comprehensively, either directly or indirectly. Operationally, we
make certain our products, education, service, delivery, and technical support are first class. We also
make sure that people who call us are greeted with a live voice because we believe that certain things
are better left unchanged.
As you browse through this catalogue, you will get a glimpse of leading-edge products that can help
foster growth in your practice. These products are brought to life by the spirited people who represent
the heart of our company. An exceptional blend of openness to change, innovative thinking, effective
products and enthusiastic, dedicated people, have been the formula for our success and growth. I
once read that “the one-word secret to happiness”, in pretty much all things, “is growth”. It is true that
there is satisfaction in growing but it is a much richer and rewarding experience when growth can
be more collective and inclusive. Looking ahead, we are inspired to be a part of your growth and
success. As always, we thank you for your trust in us and we sincerely appreciate your business.
Respectfully,
Universal compatibility in a
self-etch adhesive
A major limiting factor in the use of self-etch bonding is
the incompatibility of most self-etch adhesives with selfand
dual-cured materials. ALL-BOND SE ®
is compatible
with light-, self- and dual-cured materials without the use
of any additional activators, freeing dentists who prefer the
convenient self-etch bonding process from any procedural
limitations.
Radiopaque resin layer for
radiograph visibility
Another advantage of the ALL-BOND SE ®
Liner is that it
is radiopaque, allowing the adhesive layer to be identified
when viewed on X-rays. The radiopacity outlines the
restoration and reduces the risk of misdiagnosing caries.
As shown here, the ALL-BOND
SELF-ETCH SIMPLICITY
The following clinical case illustrates
the use of a self-etch adhesive system
for a patient wishing to replace an
amalgam restoration in the upper
left first molar. The treatment choice
was a direct composite restoration.
ALL-BOND SE ® was selected as the
bonding agent because it maintains a
secure seal to prevent microleakage
and thus help prevent post-operative
sensitivity while reducing chairtime.
Double Taper LIGHT-POST
ILLUSION
X-RO
Color-on-Command Fiber Posts
with NEW ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
The Double Taper LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO maintains all of the features and clinical
history that the original Double Taper LIGHT-POST offers with the added benefit of greater
radiopacity and the color-on-command technology. When the post is placed intra-orally, the intrinsic
color of the post disappears allowing it to blend into the natural dentition. When retreatment or
removal is ever required, the post will reappear on command by simply spraying cold water.
The Double Taper LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-RO is also available in 4 sizes, with each post being color-coded.
The post colors match the drill markings, which helps the clinician distinguish one size from another, before and after
placement.
X-RO Radiopacity
• 50% MORE RADIOPAQUE
• 30% MORE RETENTIVE
• 20% STRONGER
UNIQUE BENEFITS
• Greater radiopacity allows clinicians easier visual on radiographs
Double Taper LIGHT-POST ILLUSION X-
RO is made from the same material and has
all of the same properties and advantages as
our Double Taper LIGHT-POST, which has
won the prestigious REALITY’S CHOICES
award five years in a row.
• Corrosion-free and biocompatible
• Flexural strength at 1800 MPa - 2000 MPa
• Elastic modulus similar to dentin aids in stress distribution
• Improved surface roughness increases push out (bond) strength to the post
by nearly 33% eliminating the need for chairside silane coatings and surface
treatments
• Patented color-on-command technology simplifies the task of removing the post in
the event retreatment is ever required
RADIOPACITY
Radiopacity of the Double Taper LIGHT-
POST ILLUSION X-RO is superior to
previous generations of fiber posts to reach
340% of Aluminum equivalent (ISO Standard
#4049).
RETENTION
Patented fiber with enhanced surface
characteristics equates to superior retention
than to that of metal posts and other fiber
posts.
STRENGTH
A proprietary silane coupling agent increases
the bond between the fiber and the epoxy
matrix to improve Flexural Strength by 200
MPa (12.5%), Interlaminate Shear Strength*
(65-70 MPa) and Fatigue Resistance*.
Adhesive Classification
Although the goal for each “next” generation adhesive system was
to improve ease of use, the practitioner gave up performance and
universality. Practitioners that use 5th generation/ 2-step or 6th
generation/ 1(single)-step adhesive systems must now understand
that these products are no longer universal. While purporting to
be easier to use, they are actually more complicated because
clinicians must determine ahead of time whether they are working
on enamel or dentin, and whether adjunct materials will be lightcured,
dual-cured or self-cured.
ALL-BOND 3 ®
The Gold Standard Just Got Better
THE NEXT STEP IN TOTAL-ETCH BONDING
Introducing ALL-BOND 3 ® from BISCO. ALL-BOND 3 ® utilizes patented*
technology that takes total-etch bonding to a whole new level of performance,
assuring dentists of a simplifi ed bonding process, as well as stronger, longer
lasting bonds than ever before.
ALL-BOND 3 ®
is proven unsurpassed in its ability to bond to dentin, new
MORE HYDROPHOBIC TO PREVENT DEGRADATION
ALL-BOND 3 ®
Resin is HEMA-free for more hydrophobic bonding. The
absence of HEMA in the resin layer is a desirable feature that makes the
bonding layer less prone to water sorption. Water sorption can be a critical
cause of degradation of the bond as well as promotion of further decay in
tooth structure.
MORE PREDICTABLE AND CONSISTENT RESULTS WITH
EVERY PROCEDURE
The proprietary ALL-BOND 3 ®
formulation delivers longer lasting, more
consistent results. ALL-BOND 3 ® is less technique sensitive as the application
is the same for all procedures.
ALL-BOND SE ®
The New Standard In Self-Etch Bonding
SETTING A NEW STANDARD IN SELF-ETCH BONDING
ALL-BOND ®
has long been recognized as the gold standard in total-etch
bonding technology. Now, BISCO is proud to announce the development of
ALL-BOND SE ® , the fi rst self-etch adhesive to earn the ALL-BOND name.
ALL-BOND SE makes self-etch dental bonding more reliable, more fl exible
and more compatible with todays dental materials. ALL-BOND SE ®
offers
dentists:
UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY IN A SELF-ETCH ADHESIVE
A major limiting factor in the use of self-etch bonding is the incompatibility of
most self-etch adhesives with self- and dual-cured materials.
ALL-BOND SE ® is fully compatible with light-, self- and dual-cured materials
without the use of any additional activators, freeing dentists who prefer the
convenient self-etch bonding process from any procedural limitations.
ADDED BOND STRENGTH AND RELIABILITY
ALL-BOND SE ® was developed to provide superior bond strength from a selfetch
adhesive. Above and beyond that, ALL-BOND SE ® Liner was developed
to add strength and support to the bond interface, especially important to
larger restorations. As a hydrophobic layer, ALL-BOND SE ®
Liner acts as
an additional barrier in preventing permeability of the bond interface. This
improves the duration and integrity of the bond.
INCREASED FLEXIBILITY
Due to inherent limitations of self-etch products, some dentists have hesitated
to use self-etch adhesives. The universal compatibility, the added bond
strength and other unique characteristics of ALL-BOND SE ®
give dentists
all-new fl exibility in providing patients with quality treatment using a self-etch
bonding agent, while reducing chair time.
PORCELAIN ETCHANTS
PORCELAIN ETCHANT improves the adhesive bond between porcelain and cement
by increasing the surface area of the porcelain to be bonded. The effect is similar to
sandblasting but is more controlled and effective. PORCELAIN ETCHANT will
microscopically roughen any porcelain or glass surface.
Bisco’s PORCELAIN ETCHANT is now available in 2 concentrations: 4% (for more
traditional use) and 9.5% (to reduce etching time). Use either product to etch porcelain
veneers, crowns, inlays, and onlays prior to cementation or for the repair of porcelain
restorations. Bisco BARRIER GEL is placed where etching is not desired.
DESENSITIZER
DESENSITIZER
BISBLOCK
Oxalate Dentin Desensitizer
BISCO’s patented* oxalate dentin desensitizer and its unique application
technique are designed to prevent intra-tubular fluid movement which causes
dentin sensitivity (hydrodynamic theory---Brännström, 1966).
When BisBlock is applied on dentin, after surface decalcification (by acid etching and rinsing), calcium
oxalate crystals are formed only within the tubules (SEMs shown). This results in the blockage of
dentinal fluid movement and eliminates sensitivity, while leaving the dentin surface unobstructed to
readily accept adhesive for ideally bonded restorations.
* U.S. Patents: 6,406,529 and 6,506,055 by Pashley et al.
BENEFITS
Deep penetration into the dentinal tubules to effectively BLOCK dentinal fluid movement
Resists dislodging caused by toothbrush abrasion. Excellent bond strength still achieved.
Yellow colour of solution aids placement to ensure complete coverage
Safe for patient’s tissue and pulp
BISBLOCK FAQ’s
Q: Why can’t BisBlock be used with Self-
Etching primers
A: Acidic self-etching products and acidic
adhesives will partially dissolve the calcium
oxalate crystals and reduce bond strengths.
Top View
Cross Section View
Left, SEM top view, using a patented technique, BisBlock reacts with calcium ions in 30 seconds to form
calcium oxalate crystals in the dentinal tubules, but not on the surface. Right, SEM cross section view,
oxalate crystals within tubules halt dentinal fluid movement and cannot be mechanically dislodged, thus
preventing sensitivity. SEM courtesy of David Pashley, D.M.D., Ph.D.
Results of Past Attempts
• Crystals formed to cover the surface of the dentin
tubules which blocked fluid movement, but were easily
dislodged by brushing, flossing, etc., This resulted in
returned sensitivity a short time later.
• Bond strengths were drastically reduced due to crystal
formations blocking adhesive penetration into the tubules.
Q: What happens if I use a Self-Etching
Primer/Adhesive or a highly acidic adhesive
A: Bond strengths will be drastically reduced.
Q: What is the shelf life of BisBlock
A:2 Years.
Q: How many applications in one bottle
A: Bottle yields approximately 145 drops.
Depending on the procedure, the number of
applications will vary.
Q: I am not planning on anesthetizing my
patient prior to using BisBlock. How may I
maximize patient comfort
A: The etch, water, BisBlock and the adhesive
may be warmed to body temperature
COMPOSITE RESTORATIVES
Directed Shrinkage Technique
Introduced first by Dr. Takao Fusayama, and later by Drs. Raymond Bertolotti and John Kanca III, the self-cure posterior
restoration technique known as the “directed contraction shrinkage technique” has provided dentists with a reliable and
efficient means of achieving sensitivity-free restorations for more than 16 years.
This technique suggests that in contrast to light-cured composites, BISFIL II or 2B begins curing adjacent to the naturally
warmer surfaces of the dentin. Since all composites shrink upon polymerization, the net effect of the Directed Shrinkage
Technique is to direct polymerization toward the tooth, improving adaptation to the preparation. In this technique, BISFIL
II or 2B needs to be overlaid with a light-cured composite such as AELITE Aesthetic Enamel.
Bisfil II and 2B are 2 self-cure composites offering 2 viscosities for 2 different placement techniques – pack it or flow it,
the choice is yours.
The contraction forces of self-cure
composites is toward the tooth, maintaining
the adhesive seal of the dentin, eliminating
post-operative sensitivity.
1. In the following case a direct DO composite
resin on the lower left second bicuspid is
placed. The matrix has been placed distally.
The shortened wedge is visible interproximally.
2. With the BiTine-ring in place the matrix
section is stabilized at the same time as the
interproximal space is effectively widened for
a tight contact. The shortened wedge is not
interfering with the ring.
3. UNI-ETCH ® withBAC is a semi-gel
of phosphoric acid with disinfecting
Benzalkonium Chloride used for “total-etch”
bonding. The tooth is etched for 15 seconds
and rinsed with water for 5 seconds. The
surface is left visibly moist, for “wet bonding”.
It is not dried out.
4. ONE-STEP ® / ONE-STEP ® PLUS is the
only single-component adhesive on the
market with full compatibility to chemicallycured
composites. ONE-STEP ® PLUS is the
filled version. The moist tooth is generously
brushed with 2 layers of ONE-STEP ® adhesive.
If a Microbrush, is used, which carries less
adhesive, additional coats must be applied.
5. It is important to air dry correctly so the
adhesive is not blown away. Start drying with
the air syringe at a greater distance. Complete
drying at closer distance. Total drying time is
around 10 sec.
6. A correctly treated surface has typical shiny
“resinous” appearance. If not, additional ONE-
STEP ® coats must be applied.
7. Light-cure ONE-STEP ® for 10 seconds with
a halogen or LED light (with calibrated power
density).
8. With tooth surfaces bonded, the base
increment of BISFIL 2B can be prepared, either
using an automix tip or by handmixing on a
mixing pad. Alternatively, BISFIL II may be
used if a packing technique is preferred.
a
b
9. BISFIL 2B is placed in the deepest part of
the cavity first. The cavity is filled shy of the
proximal contact area. If needed, the material
can be spread out using a probe. It is left to set
for about 2 minutes.
13. With the R.A.P.T.O.R. bur dimples are
placed mesially, distally and centrally indicating
fossae. Fossae are joined so that cuspal planes
and fissures are created. The carbides further
refine the anatomy.
10. Once BISFIL 2B has hardened the rest
of the cavity can be filled with a light-curing
composite of choice e.g. AELITE Aesthetic
Enamel.
14. Following finishing, the surface can be
sealed with FORTIFY or BisCover surface
sealant. The occlusal surface is etched with
UNI-ETCH for 15 sec. Rinsed and carefully
dried with an air syringe.
11. When filling the occlusal part of the cavity,
the unrestricted working time of a light curing
material is valuable for sculpturing.
15. BISCOVER LV is a liquid polish rendering
instant high gloss to the surface, in addition to
sealing it.
12. Finishing and polishing of the restoration
is made easy and fast using the R.A.P.T.O.R. ®
finishing system. With burs a. and b. occlusal
anatomy is shaped. The carbides accentuate
and polish the surface.
16. The etched, rinsed and dried surface is
painted with diluted BisCover LV and cured with
a halogen light for 40 sec.
CORE MATERIALS
CORE MATERIALS
Core build-up materials are required to restore sections of missing tooth structure. Composite core build-ups aid in
restoring a variety of sizes from small additions on vital teeth to significantly large restorations on non-vital teeth. Due
to the many advantages of composite core materials, we recommend BISCO’S composite cores for your patients.
The advantages of composite core materials include:
• Easy to manipulate and contour (can be applied freehand or in some type of core form)
• Can be bonded to the tooth (reduces the need for mechanical retention)
• Sets rapidly (can be prepped immediately, allowing you to prepare for the final restoration at the core appointment)
• Requires only one appointment (saves time, laboratory expense and total cost)
• Strong compressive strength (resists occlusal forces)
• Aids in achieving favorable aesthetics in all-ceramic and composite restorations
BIS-SILANE
PORCELAIN PRIMER
Silane Primer
BISCO’s PORCELAIN PRIMERS are silane coupling agents used
to improve bonding between porcelain and resin. They are known
to enhance the wettabillty of composite resins to glass substrates,
increase physical, mechanical and chemical bonding of resin to the
porcelain, and yield greater resistance to water attack at the bonding
interface.
BISCO offers a single component pre-hydrolyzed no-mix silane primer and BIS-
SILANE, a two-part silane coupling agent. BIS-SILANE offers additional stability to
ensure effective bonding to porcelain.
PORCELAIN REPAIR KIT
PORCELAIN REPAIR KIT combines the tools required to successfully
mask the exposed metal framework and effectively prepare the metal and
porcelain surfaces for repair. Once the operative site is properly prepared,
an aesthetic and durable repair can be successfully achieved utilizing a
resin composite material.
PORCELAIN BONDING RESIN
PORCELAIN BONDING RESIN is a HEMA-Free, hydrophobic bonding
resin designed specifically for bonding to porcelain. Due to its hydrophobic
nature, this material prevents shade shifting. Placed in a thin layer on the
pre-treated intaglio surface of the restoration, PORCELAIN BONDING
RESIN will also act as a wetting resin allowing the cement to spread in a
ILLUSION
With all the features and benefits of the original Double Taper LIGHT-POST,
an additional feature of the Double Taper LIGHT-POST ILLUSION is
the patented color-on-command post transformation. When the post is placed, the
intrinsic color of the post disappears, allowing it to blend into the natural dentition. If retreatment
or removal is ever required, the color of the post will reappear on command by simply using
cold water. The Double Taper LIGHT-POST ILLUSION is also available in 4 sizes, with
each post color-coded.
DOUBLE TAPER LIGHT-POST
Double Taper LIGHT-POST are constructed from unidirectional,
pretensed, quartz fibers bound in a resin matrix. This design produces a
post with flexural strength exceeding that of metal posts but with a low modulus of elasticity
similar to dentin, allowing it to absorb functional stress and prevent root fractures. Compared to
competitive posts, BISCO fiber posts have a long clinical track record of success. The Double
Taper LIGHT-POST is available in 4 sizes, each with two tapers to mimic the natural shape of
the canal and to conserve tooth structure. The Double Taper LIGHT-POST is packaged with
color-coded rings to simplify identification and placement.
FIBER POSTS
In most cases when metal posts are used
for restoring endodontically treated teeth,
there are some risks, which will jeopardize
the treatment result:
• Risk of corrosion and subsequent loss of post integrity
• Risk of root fracture, because the post is more rigid than dentin
• Risk of root and gingival discoloration
Stresses
Light-Post Cast Metal Post Metal Post
BISCO’s non-metallic posts are the right solution for all these problems,
possessing a modulus of elasticity similar to that of dentin, preserving the tooth’s
natural colour, and exhibiting good micromechanical retention when cemented
within the root canal.
LIGHT-POST ® ENDO LIGHT-POST ®
Introduced in 1999, the 2-stage LIGHT-POST marks the
continued evolution of the RTD fiber post technology and
product line. Made from the same exclusive Quartz fibers as the
AESTHETI-PLUS post, the LIGHT-POST offers comparable mechanical
properties, a neutral translucent shade, AND the added convenience of
curing light energy transmission. With the LIGHT-POST, the bonding primer
and the (light-cure or dual-cure) resin cement can be expediently cured
simultaneously….in the canal….through the post!
Dr. Salam Sakkal, Professor of Endodontics at University of
Montreal, developed this post design with the endodontist
in mind. Based on familiar, standard ISO (#90,#100,#120) guage files
and reamers, the narrow, tapered radiopaque Endo Light-Posts are most
often indicated for use in the narrowest canals, as found in trifurcated teeth
and lower incisors. In the general dental practice, the Endo Light-Post is
an excellent adjunct to the original 2-stage Light-Posts, which are larger
in diameter. And like the Light-Posts, the Endo version are made from
translucent quartz fibers.
FLASH IS GONE!
Three-dimensionally contoured tips with Soft Face
adaptable silicone hug the matrix band to the tooth.
Flash is virtually eliminated greatly reducing finishing
time. No sectional system seals better or produces
more anatomically accurate restorations.
MAXIMUM SEPARATION
A firm core in the center of each
soft, adaptable tip directs the
ring’s tension interproximally
where it is most effective for
the separation of teeth. Other
V-shaped rings push more on
the sides of the teeth.
THEIRS
FAST AND EASY TO PLACE
The slotted bottom fits directly over the wedge
simplifying placement and allowing for wedge
adjustment.
ADAPTABLE
TWO-RING SYSTEM:
The Composi-Tight 3D Sectional Matrix System is designed to create
tight, anatomical contacts on Class II composite restorations. The contoured
sectional matrix bands create proper tooth anatomy while two styles of rings
create the required tooth separation and band adaptation for a tight, natural
contact.
SOFT FACE 3D-RING
The orange Soft FaceTM 3D-Ring will be the ring
used in most circumstances because of its ease of
placement and its ability to adapt to a wide variety of
tooth anatomies while reducing flash and restoring
proper contour.
THIN TINE G-RING ®
The thin tine G-Ring ®
(gray) is utilized in certain
conditions where the shape of the dentition will
not allow the contoured shape of the Soft Face
3D-Ring (orange) to grip tightly around the tooth,
such as the distal of a canine. In this condition,
the burnished ends of the thin tine G-Ring ®
will
adapt and retain more effectively. The thin tine G-
Ring ®
may also be preferred for malpositioned or
pedodontic applications.
4
EASY WIDE EMBRASURES
The tips of the new Soft-Face 3D-Ring are wider
Recent growth in composite and amalgam restorations has increased the demand
for a wedge that adapts well within the interproximal space and helps restore the
tooth original anatomy. The concern about maintaining periodontal health and
good restoration adaptability after going through restorative procedures resulted
in designing the FLEXI WEDGE.
Ordering Information
FLEXI WEDGE with its unique concave under surface, stiff main body and
resilient flanges, creates a more secure and anatomic interproximal contact to
avoid periodontal trauma. When placing FLEXI WEDGE into the interproximal
area the wedge will exert pressure on the teeth and not on the papilla, providing
greater tooth separation and a better interproximal seal. Furthermore, as other
plastic wedges have a tendency to back out after placement, FLEXI WEDGE has
a matte finish and directional retentive arms for more secure positioning of the
wedge within the interproximal area.
CLINICAL TECHNIQUE
Initial case
Creation of the matrix with ELITE
GLASS: leave at least 2 mm of
silicone around teeth*
Make sure there are no defects in the
area involved in the impression
ELITE ® GLASS
Preparation of the veneer Treatment of the surface** Application of the composite, starting
from the incisor zone and moving
towards the cervical edge
Addition silicone (VPS) for making a transparent matrix directly
in the patient’s mouth. Subsequently, light-curing materials (eg
composite) are applied into the matrix and re-seated in the mouth
to be light-cured through the transparent matrix. (ideal for making
temporary veneers).
Repositioning the matrix made
with ELITE GLASS in the mouth,
making sure not to leave gaps
between the matrix and the teeth.
Photopolymerise through the
matrix**
Finishing the composite: remove the
excess material and polish**
End result
• Completely transparent matrix - allows a variety of
cosmetic dental problems to be resolved quickly with
excellent aesthetic results
• Reduces the non-polymerised surface layer of the
composites due to the inhibition by oxygen
Ordering Information
• ELITE GLASS (2 x 50ml cartridges with 12 mixing tips)
*Important: remember to trim the level of material so that, at least 2mm of silicone remains around the teeth
**Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the composite
