Trevor HJ Marchand received an architectural training and practiced in his native Montreal
as well as internationally. He later received a PhD in anthropology for his studies of
building-craft knowledge with masons in Yemen and West Africa. He is a Senior Lecturer in
anthropology at London’s School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) and a designer-maker
of fine wood furniture.
Marchand’s designs fuse turn-of-the-century elegance with bold architectural form and
rhythm. Each handmade piece employs traditional joinery and uses timbers from sustainable
sources. The combination of enduring hardwoods with precious materials evokes a sense of
timeless luxury.
