STIHL uses a Marketing Number System in addition to the part number. This allows easy identification of any chain. For example,<br />

The demands imposed on guide bars are<br />
considerable. The bar must guide the chain<br />
accurately with minimum friction loss. Together<br />
with the sprocket and chain, it must convert the<br />
engine power into cutting performance with as<br />
little loss as possible. Moreover, the guide bar<br />
must withstand the toughest conditions<br />
without warping.<br />
