Yellowbikes—The racers in the blue VW with lowracers on the roof seem to have been let<br />

go. Our 2002 information inquiries were ignored. We are hearing that there may be problems at<br />

Yellowbike. The phones and emails are currently not being answered. Their have been rumors<br />

of their demise, but the website is still up.<br />

Giant—<strong>This</strong> bicycle builder builds BikeE CT’s and AT’s in Taiwan. They previously employed<br />

Mike Burrows (Windcheetah and Ratchatcher fame). We have now heard a rumor that<br />

we might see a recumbent at some point. We will be reviewing their unique new Prodigy Comfort<br />

bike later this year.<br />

www.grannytrike.com—<strong>This</strong> company that we never heard of until now appears to be<br />

rebadging S & B recumbents and two- wheelers and reselling them under the new moniker. I<br />

guess this answers our question as to whether S & B is still around. These trikes sell for $1,100<br />

to $2,300.<br />

www.schwalbetires.com—Now accepts customer-direct tire orders over the internet.<br />

Longbikes—We’ve heard that a mailing of dealer packets has gone out. The models are a<br />

$2,500 Slipstream LWB and $5,000 DuPlex (Ryan name) LWB tandem. Dick Ryan reports<br />

that his “DuPlex tandem” may be coming back to market from him in 2002.<br />

Easy Racing—Gardner Martin has recently purchased Matt Weaver’s “Virtual Edge” racer.<br />

Gardner and team want to go for the one hour Dempsey/MacCready prize sometime this year.<br />

They must go 50 miles in one hour to win.<br />

‘Bent Gear—We have found a new company that manufacturing and sells clothing specifically<br />

for recumbent bicyclists. You can check out their website at: http://www.bentgear.net (we<br />

haven’t seen any of the products, just the website).<br />

Bacchetta—Mark Colliton offered this update: “We are on schedule and expect to have steel<br />

bikes in to dealers the first week of April. The Ti Aero will be built stateside, assembled in<br />

Florida, and should be ready to ship mid-May. We don’t have a final spec for the Aero yet, but<br />

it will be nice. The retail price is still projected to be $3,800.”<br />

Linear—The company sold earlier this year. The new owner (whom we never heard from or<br />

received information from) seems to have thrown in the towel. <strong>In</strong> January rumors were rampant<br />

that the company was out of business. We are now hearing rumors that yet another buyer has<br />

stepped forward.<br />
