APRIL <strong>2011</strong>
The Annual <strong>South</strong> <strong>Sligo</strong> <strong>Spring</strong> <strong>Walking</strong> Festival<br />
will take place on Saturday 9th April <strong>and</strong> Sunday 10th<br />
April <strong>2011</strong>. There will be THREE walks each day. The<br />
short walks will suit those who prefer a leisurely<br />
pace while medium <strong>and</strong> long walks will be more<br />
challenging <strong>and</strong> offer enjoyable hill walking.<br />
The Walks…<br />
Short WalkS<br />
Our short walks take place on the beautiful undulating<br />
country roads in the Lough Talt area. Here we see<br />
<strong>South</strong> <strong>Sligo</strong> at its colourful-best with a great variety of<br />
scenery. Green farm l<strong>and</strong>, rustic hills with smatterings<br />
of woodl<strong>and</strong>… a very enjoyable <strong>and</strong> relaxing outing.<br />
MEDIUM WalkS<br />
Our medium walks for those who have walked before<br />
take place over bog <strong>and</strong> mountain taking in spectacular<br />
views of Lough Talt, Lough Easkey, Lough Conn, <strong>and</strong> on<br />
a fine day views of Enniscrone beach <strong>and</strong> as far away as<br />
the Hills of Donegal. <strong>Walking</strong> gear is essential.<br />
LONG WalkS<br />
Our long walks are for the more seasoned walker<br />
to roam freely through rugged, unspoilt terrain<br />
surrounded by beautiful scenery speckled with high<br />
altitude lakes <strong>and</strong> steams, giving yourself a chance to<br />
experience first h<strong>and</strong> the splendid isolation that is the<br />
Ox mountains. Experienced walkers only.<br />

A note about the walks<br />
All walkers should select the<br />
walks which best suit their level<br />
of fitness <strong>and</strong> experience.<br />
Participants should be<br />
prepared for wet, windy<br />
<strong>and</strong> cold conditions.<br />
Please bring along rain gear, water proof<br />
boots, walking sticks <strong>and</strong> warm clothing.<br />
Walkers should have sufficient food <strong>and</strong><br />
drink for the hill walks. There will be a short<br />
drive to some of the walks.<br />
Each of the Long Walks explore the Ox Mountains <strong>and</strong><br />
provide spectacular views of expansive bog, glimpses of<br />
the Atlantic Ocean (on clear days) <strong>and</strong> are broken with the<br />
lakes which speckle this range.<br />
Experience of hill walking is essential<br />
for the longer walks.<br />
On Saturday there will be a traditional<br />
night of music in Joe Dans Pub.<br />
