Results of the observational research project
Comparison between sexes
Both the male and the female showed during the day (9 am until 5 p.m.) mostly behaviour in
time, in space, sexual behaviour, care behaviour and metabolic behaviour. The other types of
behaviour from Koenes classification, like social behaviour, did hardly occur.
No significant differences in time budgets between males and females were found. Only the
care behaviour of the males was significantly higher (F (1.14) = 3.73, P = 0.0740) than of the
females. Furthermore female pigeons spent more behaviour in time, while males conduct
more behaviour in space and metabolic behaviour. But these differences are not significant.
