Welcome to the 2012 49er Rally sponsored by the BMW Club of
Northern California. Whether you are a return visitor or if this is
your first time, we know that you’ll find something that matches
your motorcycling interests. We have a first-rate Poker Run planned
as well as events, speakers, contests, great food and beverages
on-site, and an assortment of innovative products available from
our vendors. And don’t forget about the many wonderful roads
throughout Mariposa, gateway to Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
If you have any questions or problems during your stay, please
contact any of our rally staff (easily identified by their yellow radios),
one of our friendly security staffers, or the helpful folks at Rally
Headquarters.

Have questions Need directions If you can’t find the answers
you’re looking for in this program, check in with the friendly folks
at Rally Headquarters (also know as the Country Store) located in
the Red Barn.
Deposit your red ticket here for Raffle Drawings throughout the
weekend and check back periodically to see if you’ve won. This
ticket will also enter you in the door prize drawings during the
Awards Ceremony on Sunday night. You must be present to win
during the Awards Ceremony or give your ticket to a trusted friend
to claim your prize for you.
Buy your Poker Run Hand and have a chance to win gold or silver.
Purchase and play as many hands as you like. Ride the Poker Run
whenever you want to; you can check in with your poker hand on
Saturday 7-8pm or Sunday 3-4pm. No hand will be accepted after
4pm on Sunday; the Poker Run officials need time to tally the results
before the Awards Ceremony.
Buy 50/50 Drawing tickets. The first prize is 25% of the pot, second
prize 15%, and third prize 10%. Tickets are $1 each, 7 for $5
or 15 for $10. Prizes will be given at the Awards Ceremony but
remember: no blue ticket, no prize!
Buy your 2012 Rally T-shirts! This year we have men’s sizes M, L,
XL, and XXL. Cost is $15 for short sleeve and $20 for long sleeve;
get them early before we run out.
BMW Club of Northern California Membership: If you are a Rally
attendee on a BMW motorcycle, you are automatically a member
of the BMW Club of Northern California from the start of the 49er
Rally until the start of our Club Meeting on June 23, 2012. If you’d
like to continue your membership, sign up at Rally Headquarters.
Membership is $40 for the first year ($30 annual dues + $10 onetime
initiation fee). Come on over and find out what the Club is all

general Information
MOTORCYCLE PARKING: In order to maximize the space available
for tents, we ask that you park your bike off the grass. The
area immediately in front of the Beer Garden is a gathering place
so please don’t park there or on the grass in front of the vendor
building.
Camping: There is plenty of open camping space in any of the
grassy areas. Generally speaking, the further you are from the beer
garden, the quieter the camping. First timers should remember
that EARPLUGS would make your nights more restful. Loud camping
never works, because at 2am, noise really does carry all over
the grounds. Quiet camping never works because the early riders
might be right outside your tent, drinking coffee and talking in
normal tones. The bottom line is that we ask for common courtesy
throughout the rally grounds, and remind everyone that the thin
fabric of a tent doesn’t do anything to deaden sound.
FOOD: Saturday’s BBQ dinner is for those who pre-registered and
paid in advance. Other food is available from a local area service
club who will be serving breakfast Friday through Monday in the
Red Bud Room, and running their short order grill Friday through
Sunday from 11am through the evening for on-site lunch and dinner.
The free Norcal coffee pot is in the Red Bud Room from 6-9am.
Sal’s Taco will be on hand starting on Thursday along with Dave’s
Texas BBQ.
SHOWERS: There are newer showers by the Mining and Mineral
Museum and next to the RED BARN (Rally Headquarters). There
are showers next to the office but they are the old ones.
WRISTBAND: Please leave this on for the duration of the Rally.
SPEED: The speed limit within the fairgrounds is 5 M.P.H.
SECURITY: We have 24-hour security in radio contact with Rally
Staff. When entering the fairgrounds, please come to a complete
stop and show Security your wristband.

FIRST AID: Should the need arise, contact Rally Headquarters or
Security.
VENDORS: Every year the 49er hosts a variety of vendors. You’ll
find them in and around the Building B and adjacent to the Beer
Garden.
Swap Meet Table: Bring your extra stuff and see what everyone
else has to trade, located in the Vendor Building.
ATTENDANCE: Participation in the 49er Rally is for the benefit
of the BMW community and their guests and shall be at the discretion
of the Rally Committee. Participants and guests causing
unreasonable disruption will be evicted from the Rally Grounds
without refund or recourse
AWARDS: If you think you are the oldest or youngest rider; rode
the farthest to the Rally on a bike solo, two up, or with sidecar; or
think your club has the most folks at the Rally or rode the farthest
to get here, check in at Rally Headquarters and let them know.
BMW riders and their clubs are be eligible for awards! But if you
don’t sign-up, you can’t win.
MOTORHOMES AND CARS: The fairgrounds has a few electric
and water hookup sites available on a first come, first served
basis. Motorhomes will find ample room for parking in the RV
parking area to the right side of Registration (Concession Parking,
see map). Cars may come into the fairgrounds for loading and
unloading, but must be parked in the general parking lot next
to Registration (where there is 24-hour security) or in the Motorhome
parking lot.

Movies: Friday at 9pm and Sunday at 9pm we’ll have full-length
feature films. Movies and clips will be running throughout the
rally so if you need a break, head to Building A (Sequoia Hall) and
check out what’s showing.
Beer Garden: The Beer Garden is open Thursday through Sunday
from noon to midnight, serving beer, wine and mixed drinks.
Poker Run: Take a breathtaking ride, enjoy the cool mountain air,
answer some questions and win gold on the 49er Poker Run. Ride
on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but be sure to be back before the
scoring table closes: Saturday 7-8pm and Sunday 3-4pm.
Asphalt Skills Clinic: This seminar will broaden your mind on
what you can do with a bike, disabuse some common misconceptions
and provide an opportunity to practice some of those
things. Join us Sunday at 2pm in the General Parking Lot.
English Trials: You’ve warmed up on the Poker Run on Saturday
and now you’re ready to show your stuff at the 49er’s most
enjoyed spectator event. This contest is for those who don’t care
about their paint. There’s log jumping, water hazards and more if
you’re brave enough to try it! Mandatory Riders meeting Sunday
9:30am, in front of Rally Headquarters. Spectators meet at the Upper
Fairgrounds Sunday at 10am.
Seminars: If you want to just kick back and park yourself somewhere
for a while, join us at one of our seminars; you might even
learn something.

Rene, founder of Renedian Adventures and author
of The University of Gravel Roads will discuss
riding in wild Africa–its immense beauty and
unique challenges to riders.
Carla King
Carla is a SF Bay Area-based motorcycle adventure
travel writer and author of the Motorcycle
Misadventures series of books and live
dispatches from the road.
Wynne Benti
Author and publisher Wynne introduced generations
of Americans to Ansel Adams’ story
of Manzanar with the publication of his book
Born Free and Equal, in 2001. An avid motorcycle
rider and writer, her articles have appeared
in several publications.
Russ & Hilary Drake
Russ and Hilary have spent the last couple of
years gallivanting around the globe on motorcycles.
Their most recent adventure, New
Zealand, greeted them with some extraordinary
vistas and roads.
Joe ‘Cuda’ Glowacki
Joe is an MSF instructor who has put his /7
through the dirtbike school, track day, as
well as police-sponsored skill sessions. Joe
will conduct our asphalt clinic plus an airhead
5-speed transmission tech session.
