Employees Want
to Hear From You!
By: Hanaa Almoaibed
Group Corporate
Communications
Manager
When we take a moment to reflect on the massive amount of
information that surrounds us it can be quite overwhelming.
I got a funny e-mail forward the other day reminding me to
“respect old people—they graduated college before google!”
When I think about that statement I actually get a bit nostalgic
for the pre-Ethernet world of information; people used to have
longer conversations and really listen to one another. Today,
there is so much background NOISE that you can hardly get
your message across. This challenge has never been more real
to me than in the past year. As a corporate communications
department it is essential to be the information link in the
company. We exist to communicate what is going on across the
company to everyone inside the organization and outside of it.
However, the problem we are faced with every day is that in
today’s fast paced world, capturing people’s attention is hard!
From our experience trying to activate our
internal communications effectively over
the past year, and from what we know
from effective communication strategies,
there is one kind of news that still
captures everyone’s attention: news about
people and places we know, love and
trust. So in Corporate Communications
we strive to communicate news that you
(our employees) share with us to everyone
else across the group. However, this is a
bit difficult, because, well, we often feel
like we are talking to ourselves.
Our communication covers new business
news, coverage in the media, social
initiatives, employee accomplishments,
and other social news. Employees across
the group, however, need to tell us when
these things happen. I cannot express how
happy we are to receive an e-mail from an
employee telling us about a certificate he/
she got or when one of our business units
sends us a letter of recognition received
for outstanding service. We truly thrive on
the information we get from our people
across Rawabi Holding because we are
INSPIRED by how great our people are.
Do you know what our communications
inbox looks like Let me show you:
Rawabi Holding employees:
this is sad.
There are only four real e-mails in that
screenshot. The rest is spam. Please
give us news to report! Please share
with us because we love to share your
accomplishments with others. Our
campaigns are employee led. Our
announcements are not about us, they
are about you.
How much of the
following are you
aware of
In our effort to enhance our internal
communications, we have launched
several campaigns and events; the
Lunch with the CEO events, groupwide
re-orientation sessions; the Let’s
Talk Business campaign (in which we
consistently reminded all employees of
different channels of communication).
We have modified our internal e-mails to
include all announcements on a weekly
basis rather than bombard your inboxes
with announcements and reminders.
We have made an effort to gather more
feedback from you that helps us plan
events and decide on gift items. We are
making more on-site visits to our business
units and departments. We are increasing
our efforts to add more relevant visuals to
our emails. Are we missing something ‎
Please do tell us
Why does it matter
As employees of the same company, we
share a common bond and are working
toward many common goals. We believe
that we are strengthened by each other’s
accomplishments and need to share
our achievements so that we remain
motivated, challenged and engaged. We
have to take the time to get to know our
company, our visionary management,
and the efforts that are exerted every day
to make the company comfortable and
challenging so we can both appreciate
where we are and push to get closer to
where we want to be.
Rawabi Holding means something a
little bit different to each and every
one of us, and as a team, the corporate
communications department would like
to represent Rawabi Holding through the
various lenses that the company is seen
through. Your colleague’s new baby may
not be your biggest concern, but since
he/she spends most of his/her waking
hours at the office (maybe now only halfawake
hours ) it would be nice that
his/her work family congratulate him/her
on the new joy at home. Perhaps a new
contract in Yanbu is seemingly irrelevant
to you, but your colleagues have been
giving 120% effort to ensure that we won
over our competitors, and they deserve a
pat on the back. Your colleagues deliver
exceptional quality, give blood, clean up
our environment, inspire youth and act in
the most professional manner every day.
We are not an ordinary company, and we
are not a group of unrelated employees—
we would like to share your extraordinary
efforts and achievements so everyone can
be reminded of how cool it is to be part of
Rawabi Holding.
