Enriched For Life - Winter/Spring 2013
Yoga/Pilates Synergy
This is our most popular class! This class combines
the most effective movements from Yoga and Pilates
(Core Conditioning) to give practitioners more rapid
and balanced development of their bodies than when
either discipline is performed separately. You will
develop a LONG, LEAN BODY with this workout
which relieves stress, creates better balance, and helps
you lose weight. Please bring a yoga mat to class.
WaterSlimnastics (Adults)
Come and join in on the fun! While exercising in the
water to music, you will receive a gentle but beneficial
workout.
Thanks to a grant received from Kalamazoo
Community Foundation, we were able to purchase
an Aqua Track Step Ladder that allows you to enter
and exit the pool via steps rather than climbing up
the permanent pool ladders. Instructor provided by
Borgess Fitness.
Master Aquatic Club
LIFETIME FITNESS . . . This is the number one
priority of this program. We believe the Greater
Kalamazoo Area should offer adults the opportunity
to use lap swimming as a means of staying in superb
physical condition for a lifetime. NOTE: Participants
need not be an experienced swimmer to take part!
Swimming time is available Monday through Friday
from 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. at the West Middle School
beginning January 7. Fee is $5 per visit or you may
purchase a pass from the lifeguard on duty for $40 -
good for 10 visits. A participant may come as often or
as little as they wish. No pre-registration is necessary.
For more information, call the Portage Community
Education Center at 323-6700. (The pool will not be
open: Spring Recess - April 1-5; Memorial Day - May
27; and Independence Day-July 4.)
Portage Aquatic Club Masters
The philosophy of the Portage Aquatic Club
Swim team is to provide fun, fitness, and friendly
competition (if desired), in a positive environment of
athletic encouragement.
PAC Masters welcomes anyone, 19-years and older,
who wants to improve his/her swimming, regardless
of your previous swimming experience. (This is NOT
a learn to swim program.) Swimmers are assigned to
lanes with others of similar ability, and workouts are
adjusted according to the experience and ability of
swimmers in each lane. Our swimmers will come in
all age groups, and include:
• Former high school, college, or masters competitive
swimmers
• Experienced triathletes and open-water swimmers
• Entry-level triathletes
• Adult fitness swimmers with no previous swim
team experience
If you are just beginning to swim, or have been out
of the water for a long time, please check with the
coach for recommendations on the appropriate way
to get started. Please consult with your personal
physician before starting any new fitness program.
Recommended start time is 5:30 a.m. Coaching will
be available until 6:30 a.m. Swimmers may continue
swimming on their own as late as 7:00 a.m.
Fee; $10 per visit - CHECKS ONLY - payable to
Portage Public Schools please. You can register for
the season (September 17-March 15) through Portage
Community Education and pay in 6 payments of $80
each, due on or before the 10th of each month after
the first payment. You can have payments set up on
“Auto Pay” to avoid a $5 late fee (you will need to
notify the Community Education Office). If you pay
in-full, in advance, for the season, you will receive
a 15% discount. Minimum number of committed
participants will be required to run this program.
Proof of USMS membership is required. Swimmer’s
are expected to participate willingly and show respect
for coaches and teammates. Lap swim times are
available on Tuesdays and Thursdays to PAC Masters
members who do not want to follow the workout
schedule or who simply want additional time to swim
on their own. Additional fee of $5.00 per visit/$40 for
10 visits. No preregistration required. Payment will be
accepted by the lifeguard on duty. Swim time is from
